“Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned, and the last fish has been caught, will we realize we cannot eat money."
Socially conscious, lyrically poetic, and rife with apocalyptic symbolism, All Else Fails is poised to take our world by storm. Playing an aggressively dark blend of punk and metal, this up and coming Edmonton based band breaks the traditional ideals of their genre by incorporating experimental elements into their music, including the use of orchestration, classical music, synth based sequences, and spoken word samples. Band members Barrett Klesko, Seedy Mitchell, Mike Sands, and Brent Francis are united in their desire to achieve the great things that their combined energy will afford them. With an aggressive touring plan, chart topping debut full length, and a solid roster of previous releases, All Else Fails is at the dawn of their brightest day.
While most bands are comfortable staying within the safety zone of their set genres, All Else Fails have always carried the idea that they will not be pigeon-holed into a specific style of music. Their debut EP carried some brash stylistic choices such as the inclusion of the hybrid rock/electronica album closer “Change Me” and the spoken-word-over-world-music intro to “The Coming Storm”. Their next release, Of Ashes and Accusations, was a 7 angle Live DVD and CD that captured the pure, un-edited, intensity of their live show, blemishes and all. Their current full length release “Against the Darkening Sky” is an ambitious masterpiece that incorporates the signature metal style that has garnered the band raving reviews from fans and press alike, as well as an unshakable and scathing social commentary. Combined with full orchestration, huge crowd sing-a-longs, and hauntingly ethereal instrumental pieces, this is their heaviest, darkest, and most of all, deepest, album to date.
One listen to their music is all it takes to give the impression that All Else Fails has a lot to say, however, all of the change that the band tries to initiate with their music is more than just rhetoric. Along with past charity events such as “Driven by Compassion” (Breast Cancer Awareness), the “Earth Peace Camp Peace Rally” (focus on environmental awareness), and “Campus Food Bank” and “Amnesty International” for the U of A, All Else Fails focuses on promoting positive change through awareness. For the last 2 years they have sponsored an AIDS stricken family in Tanzania. A picture of this family along with pamphlets promoting sponsorship sits on their merch booth at every show to encourage others to follow suit.
These factors combine to form a band with a style of music that has received acclaim from fans across the province, country and across the globe. They’ve played with major touring acts Fear Factory, Threat Signal, Decapitated, Suffocation, and Arise and Ruin, including a stint on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour with heavy weights like Bad Religion, Alexisonfire, NOFX, Devil Wears Prada, Underoath and more. They have also been featured in the media through articles in The Edmonton Journal, SEE Magazine, The Grind, ?Askew Reviews, the St. Albert Gazette, and PunkTV.ca. Their music has had radio play all across Canada on College stations, and has reached as far as the University of Edinburgh radio station in Scotland.
All Else Fails is one of the hardest-working bands in the province, and all their successes are thanks to their diligence and dedication to their craft. They have promoted themselves tirelessly, and will continue to do so until their final breath.
