As a teenager Gerrit was living amongst disco loving friends. But...the only music he played was out of a far away past called the 60ties. Then the first job came along, and money was spend on blues records. Old 78's and 45's from Robert Johnson, Bukka White etc.
After moving to the Northern parts of Holland, Gerrit was invited to publish a column at the magazine 'LICK a touch of blues'. One of the influences that realy got me in to this music. Joop (Krisnha) Koes was one of those people who gave up luxery to organize festivals, run a bluesmagazine, and gave Gerrit the chance of doing interviews at the major festivals in the benelux.
After a few years we started to organize events ourselfs. Along the way we met Lance Young, a Mississippi singer/songwriter who lived with his dutch girlfriend in the Neterlands. After playing a few gigs together Lance became ill, and moved back to the states, where he died a few days later. Lance left me all his original tapes (hundreds), his guitar, his amp, his live recordings and...the inspiration to make a tribute album in the future.

Our label Ethical Records is used to bring out special projects. Former albums were produced for artists as; Thad Beckman, Martin Hutchinson, Ralph de Jongh an Tanning Blues. Many demo's were recorded at out former studio in The Netherlands. Now, living in Portugal, we hope to finish our Lance Young project, and hope to meet new artists at Casa Agradavel.
In the flat & wet parts of the northern Netherlands we used to organize The Big Barrel Blues Festival and The Acoustic Concerts. You could say that our job was to promote blues, and specialy acoustic blues. We organized tours for international artists in Holland, and supported many artists during their stay in our region with transport, PA, B&B, communication etc.
For years we made the 'Bluestrain', a show on the regional radiostation Winschoten / Reiderland. Together with Harm Jacob Dusseljee we were on air every week with a program that had many interesting features as; Old and new (a original and cover), The History od the Blues, The Link (between two songs or artists) and ofcourse many new releases. We would like to thank all labels and artists who send us their albums and demo's over the years!
Hi Ethical Records, You are dressed with filaments and people take pains to make you fully incandescent this evening. The elves that play in the toasters wash their drum sticks in honey and sing strikingly colored anthems in perfect harmonious pleasure. Your eyes are like spheres of crystal water filled with shimmering dreams. In your absence I am forced into finding other forms of amusement while thinking about you. Your cleverness helps me breathe without the need of oxygen. The skin I shed is a perfume that makes water bubbles so terribly clear to me. You breath as delicately as vapors flowing towards an attractive flame. You have not yet reached the height of your creativity. As the bliss slowly rises in my incandescent eluxulator, your mere presence has a euphoric effect upon me. Your essence is equal to the beauty of a galaxy. Your beauty is equal to the smoothness of a polished gem. I love your eyes, I know they can stare through my thoughts. Cities crumble, skies ignite spontaneously in your presence.
