  • Bio

Created for nothing more than as a means of creative expression, ANIMUS RISING is Extreme metal for the groove minded individual that appreciates a good song as much as a killer riff..... Started in late 2007 by Jeremy Hinskton following his departure as rhythm guitarist for California based metal band Audkik. Hinskton, deciding to shift gears relocated to Switzerland and began piecing together his own riffs and arrangements. Confident in his belief that he was creating something of real value, Hinskton sought out talent in a less than conventional manner.....via the internet. It didn't take long for Hinskton to hit his mark when he tapped independent musician Aaron Cloutier to handle vocals for his project. Cloutier, like Hinskton was a songwriter in his own right that despite his best efforts had never found the right group of musicians in his native New Hampshire(USA). After the completion of their first collaborative effort "Obscurity", a creative partnership was forged despite the two never meeting in person. After months of writing, the time had come to seek out a studio. Hinskton being well known in musician circles, had decided to contact Christian Machado and Laz Pina of Latin Metal band ILL NINO to man the controls for the project while he tracked guitar and bass in Switzerland..... The end result being a crushingly brutal sound drawing upon many styles under the heavy metal tree without sounding like a blatant copy of any particular band. As heavy as it is dynamic, the music takes on many "colors" as listeners will discover. Unrelenting blast beats shift into a polyrhythmic, syncopated stomp before slamming into an almost rock groove. A crushing wall of guitar and drums is further accentuated by vocals that go from subtle and menacing, to completely psychotic. At times, the instruments and vocals become one, creating an intense percussive sound that calls to mind math metal. There is an experimental element as well. With dissonant, hypnotic passages, sublte electronics, huge melodic chords and clean singing serving as the calm before the chaos. Despite the brutality and experimentation, the songs never go over the listeners head and are always rooted in a carefully crafted, groove oriented song structure..... The effort also features performances from former SIKTH throat MIKEE GOODMAN as his unmistakeable voice and style is well represented on the track "Vultures in Suits", as well as an amazing appearance on guitar from DAVIDE TISO, guitarist/song writer for EPHEL DUATH on the song "Dark Matter" In addition, Exotic female vocalist SERANERA makes a powerful contribution who's operatic style serves to heighten the intensity of the ambience and melody of the more emotional, somber passages of "Black Holes".....
