About me:

Notice: Information about one of our poetry contributors, Misty Lackey, has been added to our main website. Read all about her right here.

The Ashen Eye is a new small press publication project for quality fiction, poetry and art with a darker side. We are dedicated to publishing and supporting new, unknown and underground authors and artists. We aim to assist and promote those who are working hard to establish a name for themselves, those whose quality works go unnoticed in the mainstream or those who are deliberately swimming against it.

If one of these descriptions applies to you, you definitely came to the right place. If you have any questions, don't be shy. Drop us a line here at MySpace or visit our website for more information at www.ashen-eye.com

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:

Fiction And Poetry – We're looking for original works of short fiction and poetry with a darker side, in any genre. Just as every person has a dark side, so does every genre of fiction. Maybe you've written a mystery, thriller or noir piece dealing with the darker side of the human psyche. Maybe you're creating supernatural, psychological or even extreme/splatter horror. Perhaps you're more interested in the darker side of erotica, humor, crime, suspense, science fiction or fantasy...

The possibilities are endless. The Ashen Eye welcomes them all.

Artwork – Of course, no magazine is complete without stunning artwork. That's why we would like to invite those who create art with a darker side to showcase their work on our cover and inside our magazine. Any category of artwork (traditional, digital, photography, etc.) will be considered.

If you would like to see your work published in The Ashen Eye, please visit our website's submission section for detailed guidelines. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

All submissions will currently be considered for publication in our premiere issue.

Who I'd like to meet:
As stated above, those authors and artists who are working hard to establish a name for themselves, those whose quality works go unnoticed in the mainstream or those who are deliberately swimming against it. And, of course, people who are interested in dark fiction, poetry and art.

Visit our contributors:

Andrew Wolter, Barry Wood, Ben Eads, David Byron, David Price, Jeffrey Buford, Jim Kelley, Lawrence R. Dagstine, Lorne Dixon, Mark A. Mihalko, Misty Lackey, Nickolas Cook, Richard H. Fay

from "Hate"

".. I stopped, and looked around on the side walk and in the street.. there it is..right there. It was a demon. I hear demons talking all the time. Demons have no shape..no form. If you were to see a demon, you would have to look very close. Looking at a demon is like looking into a pitch black soul. It's a blackness unlike you could ever imagine..dreadful and meaningless..dreary..so full of hate. Although.. funny, i thought. It's unusual to hear a demon alone. Demons are always in pairs or in a group.. arguing..complaing..fighting..swearing up a storm..foul mouthed arrogant opinionated mother fuckers. They hate you, they hate me, they hate everything in exsistence, but they sure have alot of fun tempting humanity. They laugh at every sin you do. They laugh at the pain you all go through. They're spectators to every murder and sex crime..and they love every minute of it.. "

Have a creative weekend !

X

Yes, it's another promotion! I've decided to see what Ebay can do for me so I've got the following up for bids:

Gifted Trust: signed or personalized. There's no minimum bid and the last time I looked it was set pretty low. Just go to:

http://cgi. ebay. com/Gifted-Trust-by-John-Paul-Allen-Signed-Personalized_W0QQitemZ150236748421QQihZ005QQcategoryZ377QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Monkey Love: Limited Edition (only 400 copies) numbered and signed by myself and Keith Minnion, the illustrator. Again there's no minimum bid:

I'm anxious to see how well (or bad) I do on both.

Thanks

Here's what people are saying about my novella, Monkey Love:

"John Paul Allen delivers well-drawn characters and emotional dynamite in this tale of dark suspense" - Scott Nicholson, author of They Hunger.

"One sadistic piece of work by one of the most talented new voices in dark fiction." - Karen Koehler, author of the Slayer series.

"Disturbing and intense, this story is a one-sit read that races, carrying you along to grim, uncharted terrain." - Lee Thomas, Bram Stoker Award-Winning author of Stained, Parish Damned and The Dust of Wonderland.

"From the first page, Monkey Love draws you into a surreal world that teeters on a disturbing balance of madness, eroticism, and obsession." David Niall Wilson, author of Deep Blue and Ancient Eyes.

"It's a wild ride, and I loved it from first page to last." - John R. Little, author of The Memory Tree and Placeholders.

"Exquisitely well-written, more than slightly twisted and compelling erotica for all horror readers." T.M. Wright, author of the forthcoming Bone Soup and Blue Canoe.

"Monkey Love is my first read by John Paul Allen and I can promise it won't be the last. Touching, peverse, oddly poignant and riddled with interesting questions about the nature of love and obsession, I can't recommend it enough. Monkey Love is the sort of tale that pushes the boundaries of comfortable and makes us question our own morals." - James A. Moore, author of Deeper and Blood Red.
