Far too many to count, but here are a select few artist who are the reasons why I do this: Girlyman, Patty Griffin, Indigo Girls, The Weepies, Paul Simon, Ani Difranco, Kathleen Edwards, Garden Verge, Rufus Wainwright, Alexi Murdoch, The Duhks, Gillian Welch, The Sundays, John Butler Trio, Ray LaMontagne, Chris Pureka, Over the Rhine, James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Lisa Loeb, Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, Dar Williams, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Todd Snider, Nickel Creek, very early Sheryl Crow (the depressed, angry, pre-Lance, good songwriting Sheryl Crow)
Audrey Cecil, a Louisville KY singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, got her start playing the coffee shop circuit in her college days as part of a female acoustic duo called A-Squared. These days, Audrey has graduated to playing well over 100 shows per year as part of two Louisville KY bands: an acoustic duo (Amanda Lucas and Audrey Cecil) with music partner, Amanda Lucas; and a band called Two Cent Penny, which Lucas is also part of.
Two Cent Penny released an EP in September of 2007 called “August”, on which Cecil exchanged songwriting, instrument playing, and singing duties with Rob Gable. In 2008, Lucas and Cecil made a simple live recording of the duo’s songs at a local venue, and upon request, made the recording available at the duo’s shows only. In only a few months, Cecil and Lucas sold over 200 copies of that simple live recording. Most recently, Cecil did some guitar and vocal session work, and team songwriting on Lucas’ CD “Half Empty”. Cecil continues to sing, write, and play with the same passion that she did just starting out. “Amanda Lucas and Audrey Cecil” and “Two Cent Penny” continually grow in popularity; and Lucas and Cecil have made a great name for themselves in the midwest and southern regions of the US, being repeatedly invited back to play some of the best small venues in the region.
Amanda Lucas and Audrey Cecil
Both formerly parts of other bands and solo acts, Amanda Lucas and Audrey Cecil couldn’t pass up the chemistry they found while playing as a duo. Music served as the driving force for the reconnection of these childhood friends after they had been out of touch for over a decade. With their tight harmonies, catchy tunes, and heartfelt lyrics; “Amanda Lucas and Audrey Cecil” have taken their local music scene by storm.
Audrey’s brand of clean guitar playing and ability to find a harmony matches perfectly with Amanda’s strong-as-steel vocal style and knack for creating an infectious rhythm. Along with their on-stage chemistry, Amanda and Audrey have found a wonderful mixture of writing styles to create a strong songwriting force as a duo. Amanda’s pop tendencies and Audrey’s acoustic folk style mesh perfectly to create catchy, well-written tunes.
Amanda and Audrey have shared the stage with national acts like: Garrison Starr, Eric Himan, Nini Camps & Trina Hamlin of the Hamiltons, Tracy Rice, Lindsey Hinkle and countless regional/local artists.
"What a fantastic addition Amanda and Audrey have been to the Louisville music scene. Both incredibly talented musicians in their own right, what they have found as a duo is truly special. With strong original songs filled with intricate harmonies and solid musicianship, they are an up-and-coming duo that is not to be missed. As a lover of great music, it’s truly a luxury to have such a talented pair right here in my backyard. I expect great things for them!”
-Charters Harrison, Founder of River City House Concerts
"When Amanda and Audrey take the stage they quickly draw the crowd in with their engaging stage presence followed by their powerful pop vocals which are wondrously bathed in the light of honest and heartfelt renditions of any song they perform."
-Patty Henry, Louisville Music Photographer
