Dub/dance rock act Avacate (pronounced A-VACATE) from Bristol England, forging a unique sound by soaking up many of the bright, bizarre sounds, colours and cultural influences the city has to offer. Their music is a mash up of the underground culture, taking you on a journey through Rock, DnB, dub and hip-hop tinged with psychedelic over tones. Avacate’s live shows have a reputation for getting everybody dancing and losing their minds in the music. German fanzine InselZound affectionately dubbed the band a ‘Punk Pink Floyd’ you can dance to.
Avacate achieved reasonable success within one year of their inception; highlights including a prestigious slot at the NEC Birmingham and radio one air play by Joe Wiley and Steve Lamacq. The band got acquainted with life on the road by completing two successful tours of Germany. After cutting their debut E.P ‘Patterns of Disharmony’ in July 2007, the band embarked on a two month European tour to promote it, which started in England august 2007 via France, Belgium Holland, Germany and Denmark, this resulted as a live E.P ‘Sensory Assault’.
The band is currently working on their debut LP, ‘Ghost of a former self’ they enter the studio in July. Lyrically and emotionally the new songs are a lot more personal and less political than the previous E.P’s. The songs set out to question issues that our society would rather choose to ignore. The new material sees the band expand, explore and contort their sound even further. Watch this space for up coming live shows and tours.
