   About Avacate

Photobucket

Female fronted Alternative Rock act Avacate (pronounced A-VACATE) from Bristol U.K, forge a unique twist on the rock perspective. Laden with emotive female vocals, post rock guitars regurgitated by crazy FX pedals, the core glued down by punky dub bass and driven by high octane drumming.

The four piece have achieved notable DIY success since its inception in 2006; Highlights include recording and self releasing their ‘Patterns of Disharmony’ E.P. A Rock Reggae affair that also features the hot talents of Jamaica’s Troy Ellis (son of Alton) and Bristolian MC Shadz (Wedge/M4records/Central Spillz). Radio One air play by Joe Whiley and Steve Lamacq and a prestigious slot at the NEC Birmingham U.K (music live) are also under the bands belt.

They have since completed 3 successful DIY tours of Europe via England, France, Belgium Germany and Denmark. The 3rd tour lasted two months taking in all manner of venues and events, Clubs, Squats, Cafés, Festivals a Castle and a Women’s prison in Germany.

2009 saw Avacate release their debut album ‘Ghost Of A Former Self’ through U.K label Inner City Grit, playing shows all over the south west U.K, hitting up the summer festival circuit and venturing out on the Netherlands 09 tour culminating at the legendary Exit Club in Rotterdam Holland.

2010 will see Avacate concentrating on writing and recording their second album, playing and promoting throughout the festival circuit, various venues across the south-west, UK and more touring back across Europe.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Johnny Morgan (Senser): “Sounds good to me, a tight blend of heavy, funky and melodic stuff going on, they’ve got their own sound."
Paul Towler (Bristol Rocks) The full-on intensity of Avacate's octane driven soundscape is fuelled by colossal layers of treated guitars bolstered high in the mix, giving this band a distinct signature sound.
Ian Mathews (Kasabian): “I really like it, I think Avacate is excellent, good music and I particularly enjoy the vocals.”
Luke Hannam (Gramme/Play Group): “It’s got a clear commercial edge and combines the best of the experimental edge they had at the beginning with pop suss and sensibility”
Ettan Bazil (Ex Dirty Princess productions): “A great mix of styles gritty raw yet accessible”
Rick Rogers (Ex specials, The Dammed Manager/Dartington Creative Enterprise) “You’ll never survive in the mainstream!”
Anti Radio Records: “Bored of identikit Emo bands? Alternative emulators? Indy copyists? Then try Avacate an interesting and organic alternative to today’s current crop of generic rock subgenres.”
Artscare Records: “A great energetic uplifting vibe/sound. The production values are high. Musicianship is excellent… reminds me of a mixture of Skunk Anansie, Skindred, Senser & Dub War - all bands that I like, which is great.”
Mike Smith (Inner City Grit Records): “As soon as I heard this band they blew me away, Avacate really know how to blend and mix styles with alternative rock to create their own sonic identity. The songs keep a consistent energy weaving in and out of moods and atmospheres totally seamlessly, I love it.”
Patty Heather (Conscious Collective Zine): “I love the contrast and interplay between the beautifully vulnerable female vocals and the sonic assault of the guitars, the bass locks it all down and the drums sound schizophrenic, the songs are diverse powerful and really let you see Avacates perspective of the world”
Katherine (Live 'N' Up Radio): “Avacate have an original and different sound to other local rock bands. Phantom Tooth Syndrome contains clever melodies and an interesting arrangement. Totally- rocking cool stuff!”
Not Real Radio: “Powerful female melodies, rocking guitars riffs great production lyrically honest and direct. ‘Ghost’ is a pastiche of intense emotion electrifying and totally awesome”
Graham Dodds (Groove Lounge Station) on ‘Song X’: “Unusual rhythm, somewhere between the Cardiacs and early XTC. Again frantic and fantastic performance. Production exposes vision. (5/5)”
G.Cat (Three Din Pin Radio) on ‘Magdalene’: “Driving metallic pulse leads into ambient vocal groove. Veracious performance with sensitive dynamics and intelligent production!”
Pat Dodd (Music predictionist): “This is how you would expect an alternative band to sound in 2008, you can hear all the references from the past 25years of alt rock, there’s elements of sonic youth, nirvana, public image, Bad Brains, Garbage, fused with dub influenced bass lines, rock drums that use break beats, dub style and jazz influences. Interesting!.”
Suzy Connor (Eco Feminist Online): “Avacate’s music is wonderfully liberating defined and honed, I think it’s really positive that these young people are addressing issues such as mass media control, rape, child abuse and the general decline of society, they are a band with something to say which is rare in the current climate of the ‘Me Generation’.”
