mama's humming, brother davyd always, brother falcon growing up, all old traditional irish/english folk songs, raffi, neutral milk hotel, cat stevens, bob d., joan baez, woody guthrie, neil young, daniel steinbock, aaron ross, leadbelly, rilo kiley, billie holiday, joanna n., devendra b., animal collective, elliott smith, belle and sebastian, squirell nut zippers... every child ever heard singing.
Ayla Nereo came from the hills of Sonoma County, a child grown on blackberries and books. The lines of vision and waves of hearing brushed her shoulder one day, and it started to come out as music.
Ayla and brother Davyd (of That Blasted Hound) play together as Beatbeat Whisper.
Keep an eye to the sky and an ear to the sounds around... there is a revolution of conscious hearing, a casting-off of bitter judgement, and it's in your eyes.
Hi Ayla. It's so nice to be back on MySpace and have you back on my friends list. I wanted to hear your songs again. "Lulu" reminds me of a Gypsy girl's name. "Lulugee" means flower, but I recently learned the Gypsy word for a flower comes from the Greek language.
Anyway... You are an inspiration to me. I have a few more song ideas I'm working on and you are an encouragement... just by being who you are out there singing those songs.
Perhaps sometime I'll be there in person as you sing for us. Until such time, take care and be well. I wish you good health and many blessings.
Great tunes, Ayla! Thanks for the add. Come join us at Cafe Noto sometime. We're booking gigs on Friday and Saturday nights. Let me know if you're interested - Drew

In the Pantheon of Things That Are Badass, your Thing is so Badass that it's not even a Thing anymore and therefore does not belong in any Pantheon...Badass or Otherwise.
Auntie Ayla! Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, it means a lot. I think around this time last year would be the time in which I got locked out of my room and you were my savior in letting me back in. I hope that your post-grad life is going well. I know its an awful question, but what are you thinking about doing? Anyways this is getting long, but to give you a little update, I'm starting berkeley in the fall and want to be a medical anthropologist. Cause they're cool cats. Stay awesome Ayla, I have very fond memories of you.
Yours,
Ashveer
your songs make me happy, and i remember hearing the first time you played. i teared up because you were so good. i still listen to the ones i have, and i can't wait for the next ones...
oh dear one ~ enjoy this last week o' stanford to the ultimate-super-max, okay? suck it all into your eyeballs and BE in every moment until you lose all sense of form illusion and see the stillness beneath. oh, just love it all.
i'll see you sunday. for that crazy day. and then you better be coming home to the country hills so i can suck you in and BE with your darlin-dear ayla-ness.
a most epic performance yesterday. i think you might have just changed some people's realities. for some folks, there was the day before they heard ayla nereo play and the lifetime after.
why do i have it written in my calendar that we have a tentative date today, but we haven't talked. i'm confused. i miss you. when will the universe bring our bodies close enough for a hug? huh?
