   About BackBeatSoundSystem
“Made with movement in mind. Traditional reggae music slapped upside the head with a party stick. Stomping bass, dub synths & steady grooves.“

"In the short time Backbeat have been together, they have been smashing up the live music scene in the U.K with their unique brand of funky, sexy, party reggae. Blending pop sensibilities, with the undeniable groove of their uptempo tunes, b.b.s.s not only create a perfect party atmosphere, but leave you with infectious melodies that are sure to be in your head for days!

Over the Summer they've shared a stage with many big names including Cypress Hill, Dreadzone, Dub Pistols and Natty, enjoyed a spot at many of the U.K's biggest festivals including Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party and Ireland's Electric Picnic, and Shook up whole clubs with their pumping reggae rhythms. Where ever they're playing, it's obvious that b.b.s.s can transcend musical barriers and do whats most important...make sure that every single person in the room, (or field) is having fun, and dancing their legs off!!

An incredible summer came to it's finale with BackBeat releasing their eagerly awaited debut e.p 'Funky in the face of fear', which has received nothing but the most positive reviews, and continues to not only bring back the good time vibes of the summer, but make people who didn't realise they liked reggae, to sit up and look again!

BackBeatSoundSystem truly need to be witnessed live to realise that Cornwall is sitting on a huge gem. 8 like minded people on stage having huge amounts of fun, playing music not for ego or image, but just for the love of it. So get yourself down to the next BackBeat mash up, and make sure you bring your dancing shoes!!"

Reviews:

Back Beat Sound System are a nine-piece band based in the UK’s sunny South West, who play “traditional reggae music slapped upside the head with a party stick”. And they’re bloody good!
Their two-track demo CD is a short but sweet showcase of music that doubtless goes down incredibly well on stage. I’d even recommend booking them on the strength of these two tracks. Solid bass and drums with cutting brass, guitars, keys and more than one accomplished vocalist are recorded and mixed extremely proficiently, to create a modern, well-rounded sound...
Turns out that you can take the Jamaica out of reggae, you just need a “party stick”. - SOUND ON SOUND - Chris Mayes-Wright

"I always get into trouble when reviewing South West roots-reggae bands because they're usually, quite literally, pale imitations of the real deal. BACKBEATSOUNDSYSTEM, on the other hand, are a substantially superior propostition. This is because a) they don't sound like middle class hippies playing at being 'streetsmart' b) they sing about survival not smoking weed or 'peace' and 3) they have fucking great tunes that honour the lineage of reggae rather than shame it. And the club remixes are neat too. Stellar stuff" - 24/7 Magazine

"Superb reggae act from South West England, Back Beat Sound System bring you three excellent songs along with remixes of their great track ‘Daily Grime’. ‘Old Friend of Mine’ kicks off with catchy style and the laid back ‘Nightmares’ takes it down a notch or two. Their infectious rhythms and grooves paired with great brass and vocals bring the feel of summer almost within grasp. Their page makes you feel you’ve unwrapped a real gem." - Digitalgig.co.uk

A band oozing with soul. Distinctive, sexy beats, make BackBeat SoundSystem the perfect party band. They get every member of the crowd moving with their unique brand of reggae. A roots reggae band, to blow all others in the South West and beyond, out of the water. This group most definitely over shadow the usual poor imitations that seem to come out of the dark for the summer months, totally fresh and funky. - go2 Magazine

"Winner of this year's rising star competition with over 1000 votes and a unanimous decision from the panel of judges, comprised of, Jay from The Dub Pistols, Si 'Chai' captain of the Wallah stage & Sunrise's own director of creative niceness Jake Ewen. We welcome them to the Sunrise stage, and feel sure you'll agree, these guys are on course for the stars!" - Sunrise Festival

"i feel all sexy inside. i think i need a sit down after that" - happy fan :)
