   About Back of the Moon

In November 2007 Back of the Moon played their final concert in the grand surroundings of the Kennedy Centre Washington DC. All members of Back of the Moon would like to thank everyone who has helped them over the years.

Findlay and Gillian have a new band called Findlay Napier and the Bar Room Mountaineers. http://www.findlaynapier.com or http://www.myspace.com/findlaynapier

Ali is currently working with Old Blind Dogs. http://www.oldblinddogs.co.uk or www.myspace.com/oldblinddogs

Hamish is applying to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston. http://www.myspace.com/hamishnapier

Back of the Moon were a top Scottish folk band with both new and traditional tunes and songs cast in fresh modern sounding arrangements. Formed in 2000, the band rapidly gained a reputation for their dynamic live performances, touring annually throughout the UK, Canada, USA and eight different European Countries. Back of the Moon created their giant acoustic sound through a tightly woven frontline of Scottish border pipes and fiddle, an intimate pairing of low whistle and flute, the distinctive rhythmic force of their guitar/piano rhythm combo, at times augmented by bodhran and Cape Breton Stepdancing, and awesome three-part vocal harmonies in their Scottish songs - in which each unique singer took the lead. 2005 saw them win 'Best Folk Band' at the Scottish Trad Music Awards, having received "Best Up and Coming Act" at the awards back in 2003 and "Best Celtic Group" at Lorient Interceltic Festival 2003.

Hey guys
I've just uploaded some new songs on my myspace...

What do you suggest in terms of production?
This is work in progress...it's mostly live with us all playing together and we need to fanny around with it a bit... we would value your expert opinion... before we get around to finishing them...

Love Pennyxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Poem-come-song 101 of 230, from walaboutsverse.741.com: JUST SUBSIST

At times when I’ve had time to take,
I’ve thought of a plot by a lake:
The plot would be of fertile ground;
The lake would have some trout around.

The plot’s house would be made of brick -
Well insulated, in good nick.
And round this abode there’d be built -
Solar panels, kept at best tilt.

Inside large coops would run the legs
Of chooks and quails - for fresh eggs.
A vine for grapes plus summer shade;
And, in thin beds, vegetables laid.

Up at dawn, to use all sunlight -
Fish and farm by day, read at night.
A spouse with me I’d not resist -
In retirement, we’d just subsist.
