"The band fuses folk rock with spoken-wordlike storytelling, epic arrangements and indie-choral tendencies, one-upping the casual singer-songwriter fare." - Nick Miller, Sacramento News and Review Feb. 2010

"The thing Be Brave Bold Robot has that few other bands have is a killer sense of chemistry.
Dean Haakenson sings in a wavering, unsure voice—full nerves and intellect—as Brian Jackson (keys) watches him, trying to figure out what the hell he’s going to do next. Is Haakenson going to sing the next verse like a regular musician, or will he stop playing altogether and start in on a neurotic diatribe like a man with a microphone and too much on his mind? Either way is fine with the audience.
As Haakenson rambles happily through fully-endearing, mostly expository songs, Heather Phillips sings in the background while seemingly trying to choke back laughter. With each BBBR show, one gets the feeling it must be hard to concentrate with Haakenson in your band.
But that’s not to say BBBR isn’t serious; in fact, it’s their lack of seriousness that makes them so damned earnest. Their jovial personal interplay carries over into the communication of their instruments, which is at once playful and complex; watching BBBR is akin to watching a group of drunk hummingbirds. And Haakenson, under a thin sheet of madness, displays an interesting voice and a profound set of lyrics—whether sung, muttered or screamed out loud—that resonates. Think Dave Matthews with a few espressos and a glorious sense of humor.
As a whole, there’s a certain laziness to BBBR songs, yet they don't slouch; they’re simply reserved and they know how to make light of any situation. And all that earnest joy balances quite nicely, especially in a room full of very serious people." - Josh Fernandez, Sacramento News and Review, June 2008
I hope this finds you well. This is the overused and lazily unattractive myspace profile for the band Be Brave Bold Robot. Hailing from Sacramento, California, Be Brave Bold Robot is a collection of people, ranging from One (1) to Eight (8), who are known to joyfully weep wispy ghost tears of music in any given area where they might happen to find themselves being allowed to be, for the enjoyment of people who might happen to be mulling around said given area, wondering what to do with themselves for that particular time being.
REMEMBER. WE ALL WANT TO BE LOVED.
Remember that you are Mysterious and Special, and it is in your very nature to act like it.
Exercise your imagination. Enterprise your flatulation.

Thanks again and again and again, for listening and working hard at being a good person, if that's what you are doing. If that's not what you are doing, good job at making life interesting and challenging, and try to remember to say "Thank you" once in a while.
Read the Blogs! there's some okay thoughtful writing in there!
THE FOLLOWING IS A LOVE LETTER FROM A FRIEND:
"Dean Haakenson is the heart of Be Brave Bold Robot, which is very appopriate because he may very well be the human personification of Love. If you've seen him play live then you know that Dean lays it all on the very sweaty line everytime he picks up his guitar and gets behind the microphone. There's nothing artificial there, and there's nothing artificial on the Be Brave Bold Robot self-titled release either. It's a punk-folk-rock-soul collision echoing Elliot Smith, Counting Crows, and whoever it was that sang Puff the Magic Dragon (Peter, Paul & Mary). Lyrics are everywhere, sometimes belted out, sometimes delivered as stilted half-raps, and they are worth listening to. If you don't know Dean Haakenson before you listen to this record, you will after. Melodically, this album does nod occassionally to pop sensibilities (you mave even hear a chorus or two or three), but it never approaches Mayer-esque song construction, which from my point of view is a good thing. Fear not though, there is always a beat to dance to. All in all, the record is a product of love, and love seems to make everything okay. You don't often find a banjo, vibraphone, cello, stand-up bass, and clarinet (or was that a bassoon?) all comfortably nestled on the same record." - Eric Bourne
Here's a Great Word: POGONOTROPHY = Cultivation of a beard; beard-growing.
"Do not — as a British journalist did some years ago — confuse this useful word with pogonotomy. Both originate in the Greek word pogon, a beard, but the latter ends in –tomia, cutting, and so is the word for trimming one’s beard, or shaving, the exact opposite of the writer’s intention. Pogonotrophy, on the other hand, ends with Greek trophe, nourishment, so its literal sense is “beard feeding”. Neither word is what you might call common; they usually appear only when somebody is writing in a mock-pompous, tongue-in-cheek way. Other words in pogon include pogonic, pertaining to a beard, and Pogonophora, the systematic name for a group of deep-sea worms; their name actually means “beard bearer”, which is odd, since they don’t have mouths to cultivate them around." - Michael Quinion
Hey Dean-o, Do I get any free CD privileges, since I was the one who took you to that concert in the park and with whom hecka material was brainstormed for the "Hecka Stuff" song? Perty please? Those photographer boys were practically my children! ... Basically I have no money and I want your new album! HEcka bad!
Saw you guys last night at the Naked Lounge and was really impressed. I heard a very minor sort of collection of robots at the 43 presidents gig and was amusingly, even pleasantly surprised by the joyous cacophony of musicality than then ensued.
no way i just saw the golden cadillacs for the first time a couple weeks ago and they were awesome! and of course you know i love youuuu! i am so there tonight! :) woohoo! stoked
Just a reminder folks that beginning next month, and continuing for one year, each month's HCAS audience favorite winner will be added to the performer list for our big bash in March 2011. The bash is going to be a super special event that is promoted well and held in a bigger venue (currently thinking Arcata Playhouse - details to come soon). So, now's the time to start practicing and crafting your material if you're thinking of performing at the Feb 4th show. Remember also that you're welcome to bring supporting musicians with you to the show - it doesn't have to be just you and your guitar, if you have an amazing bass player friend that is going to take your song to the next level make sure and bring them with you. The basic rule is as long as you fit on the stage and can get going quickly, the more the merrier.
I'd also like to officially thank Chris Fonda for taking on the job as HCAS Promoter. Chris will be leading the effort to recruit more all stars and get the word out to the general public about the big show when the time comes. It's going to be a big job and it doesn't pay anything so give him a big e-round of applause for his selfless support. If you'd like to help him out or just thank him his email is bintangus@yahoo.com
you picked all Carly guys. and my faves....so i have to make adjustments.... i'd be (genders aside) Kirk, because he's a "maverick" - fuck you Sarah Palin, i'm taking it back!....then Data....Warf....Janeway..... we're such nerds. i love you.
