Keith aka K.R.O. aka Sweet Potato Brown (vocals): Keith handles the rhyming duties and lead vocals, using a throwback rhyme style with new styles stirred in. He pops up at plenty of freestyle sessions, and in the past participated in regional finals of rhyme battles (like the Blaze rhyme battle).
----------------
Chris aka Madd Ruckus aka Doc Cadillac (Bass):
Straight up, Chris is a bad cat. Chris provides the bass backbone of the K.R.O. and Big Pimp Jones funk and has been down with the group since 1997. Chris plays at least five instruments with music-teacher skill.
-------------------
Greg aka Chaos aka 666 Volt (Drums):
Greg is also trained on mulitple instruments, being especially proficient on the drums and guitar (he did double instrument duty on a K.R.O. album when the drummer quit). Greg has also been down since before the first gig in 1997. Greg comes from a heavy metal background but is well-schooled in the old soul, which is a main part of Big Pimp Jones' funk - with - traces - of - rock style. Greg has recently changed to drums.
-------------------
Geok aka Big Sherm (Guitar):
Gelok is the newset member ob BPJ. Being trained in classical and jazz guitar for many years he also is in CHOREA and the Drum and Bass project PROTEUS ABSTRACT.
-------------------
Jay aka Tondef (DJ)
Tondef was in Big Pimp Jones a while back, when the band name was K.R.O. and the House Band of the Apocalypse and he went by J-Wing. He provides scratches, sound effects, intro parts and even beats for Big Pimp Jones live.
Influences
James Brown, P-Funk, Cameo, all of those rare, dope funk singles by bands that cut one record, Prince, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, Sugarhill Gang, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Mr. Bungle, Slayer, Gerardo
Our goal has always been taking some hip-hop lyrics and putting them on top of funk. We're talking about that funk where you interrupt yourself to say something like "aaaaawwwwwWWWW YEAH!", stop macking, then run across the room to the DJ booth to see what that funky-ass record is, cause you gotta have it! We've been doing this thang for about 10 years now, just doing our best to give some funk back to hip-hop (since hip-hop's been in a taking mood with the funk).
>>>>Now, for some fun facts about Big Pimp Jones:
1. We used to go by the name 'K.R.O. and the House band of the Apocalypse'.
2. We've released 2 albums on tape (on longer available), 8 albums on CD, 1 single under the name K.R.O. and 2 double-sided singles under assumed names.
3. We reside in the Philadelphia area.
4. We're the only band in history to have all five band members be named People magazine's 'Sexiest man of the year' (over different years, of course).
5. We're from the future.
6. Our malt liquor of choice is Hurricane.
7. We would run up on people, do a rambo, whip out the jammy and flat-blast them fools, but we don't want to mess up our $3700 Lynx coats.
