Sounds Like
Ragnarok; the battle that will signal the end of the known world.
Black Pyramid play doom with the rumbling down-tuned tones of stoner metal gods like Sleep, Electric Wizard, and High On Fire, but with the epic arrangements of old school metal and doom acts such as Black Sabbath, Pentagram, and The Obsessed. Add to the sonic brew perfectly executed forays into vintage psych and progressive rock, along with the apocalyptic lyrical ravings about war, the occult, and general alienation, and you've got an accurate picture of what the band is all about. Prepare to be crushed by the weight of the Black Pyramid...
"As I understand it, the biggest problem with doom, is that too many bands think doom/stoner/sludge is about minimalism. As a result shitty playing, lack of chops, and half-assed execution may be the unfortunate coup de grace for the genre. Most of those bastards would be wise to take a couple of lessons from MA's Black Pyramid, who through the course of two songs deliver an impassioned performance, smartly never forgetting that doom or whatever you want to call it today, is not about minimalism." - Deaf Sparrow
"Black Pyramid has quickly risen to a level so good that it is frightening...Seriously, if this type of thundering mayhem is your cup of tea there is no excuse to miss out on this release. Trust me that this band is going to drop an LP that every fan of this style will remember. I’m amazed at just how much prowess they’ve shown over the course of four songs. Yes, four songs and they’re that good at this timeless style. Fans of Sleep, Sabbath, Earthride, High on Fire, Cavity and other wielders of ironclad riffs can’t miss this 7". Something big is coming on the horizon from these guys; mark my words, listen to this record and count the days until the band delivers an album that is sure to be a must listen experience in the entire doom world." - Hellride Music
"This two song 7" marks their first official release, and by my account, it’s as fine a debut as you can get. The first track, "Visions of Gehenna," rumbles with Sleep’s engine and while a mean and heavy song, it remains surprisingly nimble thanks to a killer mid-section that touches upon the psychedelic noodling of Palace in Thunderland. In Black Pyramid’s case, it’s less Hawkwind-ish and more bad acid inspired (fitting, given what band’s name references). With its grandiose feel, "Caravan" hews a lot closer to Palace, but it’s bereft of any excess meandering and again comes off as a heavier, more metal song...All total, Black Pyramid’s off to a fine start with this 7". Here’s hoping people take notice. Recommended." - Stonerrock.com
"This American Black Pyramid uses everything classic doom like Sabbath or Pentagram gave us: great structured songs, flowing easily and a great listen. I even hear some Vitus way in the back…A must for doomfreaks and a great buy when you do not know the band." - Lords of Metal
"Ok so take a couple thousand angry men armed with swords, add a very overcast sky and start a fucking war, thats what this band sounds like. These guys rock out, and do it well. the music is thick foreboding and triumphant to say the least." - The Elephant Graveyard
"Ah, this is what doom should sound like. The intorductory moments of opening track 'Visions of Gehenna' are a beautiful fuzzed out Sleep esque reminder of all that is right with our genre, a tone so purely doom that it warms your heart. Listening to this one evening I drunkenly declared it a perfect opening 5 seconds of music - a bit too far, granted, but an indicator none the less." - Ninehertz
