Those opportunities to observe, process and act upon what he witnesses in the world surrounding him are the primary traits of a great songwriter, something Heath continues to showcase on his second Reunion Records release, What If We (August 19, 2008).
Even the album’s title grew up out of one of those little moments, a conversation Heath was having with a mentor that sent the Nashville native, now Houston resident, spinning off into thought.
“Every part of that phrase, ‘what if we,’ is important,” Heath says. “I don’t even look at it as incomplete – dot, dot, dot – because the ‘what if’ part is about possibilities, obviously. But the ‘we’ part is saying, ‘let’s do this together, let’s not do this alone.’”
So I went to the Follow You Tour in Clearwater, FL at the Countryside Christian Center and all I can say is WOW! The atmosphere and the Spirit of God was there so strongly that night. It was amazing to be in a place with so many people just worshiping and loving on God all at the same time. I have to say, that I was sincerely changed that night; something in my spirit switched and gave me a deeper desire to reach out to people who do not know Jesus. This brings me to the point of this comment.
I have heard your song "Give me your eyes" many times.....I can sing along with it on the radio and on my iPod with no problem, I know the lyrics and have seen the music video. But when you sang it the night of the tour, I actually HEARD it. I cannot forget that moment when I came to the realization of what you are saying in your song. The part that really got me was "All those people going somewhere, why have I never cared?" I interpreted that line in two different ways. The first way was in a literal sense pertaining to the everyday hustle such as work, family visits, grocery shopping, picking up kids from school, vacation, and the list can go on and on; I also took it in the spiritual sense of those same people we are encountering going to either Heaven or Hell. I then checked myself because I realized that up until that moment, the moment I realized those two things, that I had been totally self-involved. I had not been thinking about the souls and lives around me who may be dying and going to hell, those people who do not know the amazing, indescribable love of OUR God. I mean, I immediately thought to myself, “Isn’t it supposed to be God first, others second, and me last??? I already know God, I have a relationship with Him, but here I am keeping it all to myself when I should be sharing it!”
To be honest though Brandon, it goes a lot deeper than what I just explained……I really can’t describe the amazing change that
Today we are dancing for Jesus and being a little crazy, but you are either for him or against him and I have no shame in saying I am crazy for the Lord Jesus Christ. God surly walked, God surly lives and he is so graceful and quick to forgive, We wake each morning with his special love never ending, and his hands are healing daily, what passion he is always sending.
Walk in the light today, tomorrow may never come, but we know there is a light that never goes out, It's the Lord and he is always wondering here and about.
