Sérgio Gomes, the Breaks lda's main-head, began his career in 1998. first in his city, Póvoa de Varzim (Portugal), and later around Portugal and Europe. Influenced by indie-rock and funk, their sets are now characterized by a mixture of breakbeat with tech-funk, where their beats, re-rubs and mash-ups are in.
Dj Manaia is a dj and promotor from Lisbon since 1999. Some bars in Bairro Alto and Fluid in Santos were his principal residences. In 2005 he started his most evident project, the venue CLUBE MERCADO, a venue in Lisbon that received great national and international shows! In Clube Mercado he was the resident dj and promotor of several events that was a mark in Lisbon's night life: Dj Premier, Dj A-Trak, Nicola Conte, Bonde Do Role, Buraka Som Sistema, Boozoo Bajou, Kid Loco, Idjut Boys, Jahcoozi, Putsch'79, among many others. In all this years he already played all over Portugal... Lisboa (Fluid, Frágil, Estado Liquido, Clube da Esquina, Purex, Lounge, Left, Op Art, Lux), Porto (Plano B, Trintaeum, Bazaar, Industria), Bragança, Braga, Chaves, Aveiro, Viseu, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Figueira da Foz, Caldas da Rainha, Rio Maior, Leiria, Evora, Sto.Andre, Zambujeira do Mar, Albufeira, Madeira and Azores... He already played as well in UK, Bristol at Native with Tayo, Oxford at The Cellar with Hannah Holland and Les Petits Pilous, Portsmouth at Sumo. And in London at Cargo with Deekline and Beni G, at Bar Rumba with Ragga Twins and at Catch with Zombie Disco Squad. He played as well in Paris, Vienna and Nuremberg. His style is difficult to describe because he plaies everything that bounces the dancefloor... it can be hip-hop, brokenbeat, house, electro or rock... anyway, free style where the sounds of ghettos from all over the world are evident, the Baile Funk from Rio de Janeiro, the Bmore Club from US, the Kuduro of Luanda and Lisboa, the Breakbeat and Dubstep from London, etc.!
Blackdisco are two giant nerds from Portugal whose love for music and sound made them build a bunker and fill it with loads, and I mean loads of recent and vintage gear that allows them to fool around with sound as they pretty damn please. I kid you not, ladies and gentlemen… these boys rock the synthesizers, the vocoders, the arpeggiators and everything that has a knob or a button in it.
As huge fans of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, Blackdisco re-edit, mash-up and remix other people’s music in real time into a form they find more, well… more “Blackdiscoey” and then turn them into an infectious performance as live-djs that will make you dance and even do some headbanging.
Blackdisco are now retired from society as we know it and are devoted to making and playing music that makes you shake what yo mama (or plastic surgeon) gave you!
