Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Sam Kinison, Monty Python (Sigh!). Yes, also Bill Hicks and Flip Wilson, a black comic who was the first stand up I ever saw live, (at age nine).
His opening line, as he addressed his band leader, was, "Does your Daddy know you work for a nigger? It’d kill him." It was in Texas in 1980. The crowd sat in shock for a few seconds, wondering if they were allowed to laugh, then fell about, and I thought, "I wanna do that."

A controversial pioneer of his art form, 2006 has been a massive, MASSIVE year for Burns. Not only has he penned the hugely critically acclaimed and unprecedented 'Burnsy versus Brendon' The Stand up trilogy. He also has been the subject of a documentary by The Aristocrats director, Paul Provenza, was selected to play the Garrick Theatre as part of the if/Eddies award season and has just finished cutting his sixth live comedy album, amongst a shit load of other stuff......
There has never been a better time to catch this cult comic and join his ever-widening legion of fans. He's been around for yonks (but has just discovered that this bio must be under three thousand words. So he's had to cut everything from '96 to 2004 .... fuck!).
In 2004 he embarked on a project no other stand up has ever dared: A stand up trilogy.....Part I being 'Burnsy vs Brendon' Trust me it was huge and press lapped it up!
Part II - All My Love, All My Rage sold right out and the press loved that too! And finally, praise for his 2006 world toured show Burnsy vs Brendon - Part III 'Sober not Clean'.........
"Just occasionally a comedy show is so good it is like falling in love. You run out punching the air, feeling full to the brim with lust for life and joy. I ran out of mobile phone juice calling my friends and telling them to buy tickets..."
"Loud, brash, rude, in your face and fantastically laugh out loud funny. This is really something special, a show that makes you howl with laughter, which takes you right up to the emotional edges and which draws its strength from something very deep and pure. Long Live Brendon Burns...." ***** The Scotsman
"Remains undiminished at his blasphemous best...".***** The Herald
"An exceptionally funny performer.. and ode to the healing power of the human spirit.. One of the circuits most intelligent artists...." **** Evening News
"A fascinating show, extremely funny and very moving..." The Stage
"You have to hail a comic who exposes his life so willingly, who takes his audience on such an emotional ride without resorting to course manipulation, who has the courage to flirt with conventions of bad taste, who has the power of delivery to overwhelm resistance, revulsion and downright hostility, and, most of all, who makes it all damn funny. Brendon, have that fifth star you've never before received from Chortle. God knows, you've been through enough to earn it..." ***** Steve Bennet, Chortle

Hey brendon, Just wanting a bit of advice bud. I am starting off my comedy career moving from script writing to doing stand-up and ..erm... do u have any advice for a first timer? i've got three gigs coming up and i don't want to chicken out of them. I'm a big fan of yours and i watch alot of comedy and u seem to be quite bold on stage, did that persona take time or did it just occur instantly?
Welcome to 2009 (abit belated). What lays in store? Flying Cars, monkey butlers, jet packs, advance sexy robotic maids? Well sadly none of that (sexy robo maids are still in their sexy infancy), what we do have is a new episode of the rogues gallery! Jacky and Richy return for your listening pleasure to talk about the usual crap; including worst jobs in the world, life according to a Dungeons and Dragons fanatic and the Inaugural Brisbane Comedy festival.
Anyway promises to be fun. So visit us and spread the mirth!
I'm coming back on Thurday. Sadly. Been here a month. Well I'm in Vancouver at the moment and have been all over the west coast. I don't want to leave though and Em and Laney don't want to leave, I think they may lock me in their flat.
I know. God bless America. I almost pissed myself with pure joy and excitement despite all the scary as fuck Republicans in the shooting place and the fact we shot at life-size photos of Osama Bin Laden. AMAZING.
