What is it that makes us, who we are.
Well first off, let me start off by introducing the characters in this cartoon
First we have Mickie Arnett. That would be ME!!
I am the primary songwriter, singer, and rhythm guitar player in the band.
We have Grant Gebler laying down the bass, and doing some background vocals. Mark Anthony is back there keeping the groove going on drums.
To finish out our cast of misfits. We have Mike Devine on lead guitar.
Well there you go
Now you know all the answers. Well, not really.
That still doesnt tell you what a Broken View is, what it does, or why
So here we go.. Walk with me down the rabbit hole into our world.
First off.My definition of Broken View
BROKEN VIEW:
1. Observing things around you from a damaged or uncontrollable vantage point.
2. Observing things from a distance. Only to realize that everything is damaged and uncontrollable.
3. Buying that last 2 tickets that were available at the Rolling Stones concert that JUST HAPPEN to be right behind the huge support pole
I think you get the point.
Now as far as us band members, here is all the dirt. I had picked up a guitar and realized I could murder a few Jimmy Buffet songs. I got the urge to head out to the local bars, and see if anyone would buy me a drink to shut up.
Before long, I was running one of the jam nights and I was the one buying drinks to get people to shut up. Well, once it was found out that I would buy drinks. I was everyones best friend (in walks Grant)
We hit it off right away... We started jamming, writing some new material, and even played some shows with a motley crew of musicians.
Before long we realized we might actually almost have a band, and we hadnt even come up with a band name yet
We tried a couple, but given Grants and my own cynical views, and our love of the art of observation, Broken View just stuck.
Anyway, 2 road trips, 497 beers, 16 guitars (at least), 2 drummers and a couple guitar players later we started playing with Mark. Things got solid really quick as he was a great drummer. Not flashy, just solid as hell and ready to rock out.
After a couple of shows (and my inability to play lead guitar) people were getting sick of me humming the guitar lead for Hotel California. So out goes the add in the paper. A few calls, a few months, and a few practices later MIKE ARRIVES..Now we were complete. It was kind of a Jerry MacGuire moment.. You all know the scene. (No, not you said f..$k)
Anyway there it is. The story of the journey..And now here we are.
We finished our first album Unum in mid 2006. We are currently working on new material to make an EP. We are also playing out regularly in the San Diego area for any interested parties. Please feel free to contact any members of the band through the contact page of our website brokenview.com.
