About me: The Brutalists poetry movement was formed by writers TONY O'NEILL, ADELLE STRIPE and BEN MYERS during the long record-breaking heatwave summer of 2006. We are all active members of the literary underground, publishing our work via a plethora of books, anthologies, fanzines, websites, readings and weblogs - The Brutalists are possibly the first literary movement launched via Myspace.
Brutalism calls for writing that touches upon levels of raw honesty that is a lacking form most mainstream fiction. We cannot simply sit around waiting to be discovered — we would rather do it ourselves. Total control, total creativity. The Brutalists see ourselves as a band who have put down their instruments and picked up their pens and scalpels instead.
The only maxim we adhere to is an old punk belief, which we have bastardised for our own means: 'Here’s a laptop. Here’s a spell-check. Now write a book.'
Brutalist writing is open to anyone who shares similar ideas about the role of literature.
The debut Brutalist work is Brutalism 1:Nowhere Fast, published in February 2008 on Captains of Industry Press. It features six poems from each writer, each tackling their respective Northern town where they grew up (Blackburn, Durham and Tadcaster respectively). The collection is illustrated by LISA CRADDUCK and is limited to 300 copies. This is a highly collectable chapbook and will not be re-issued.

"The test of the integrity of a poem, or any work of art, may be, simply: does it lead, in the end, to freedom, or does it merely expand the arena of confinement? A voice from the outside, truly, is what we need to hear. Even a single word. Even something that is not a word, but suggests such a word."
all of you fuckers!*You listen !*I
am from the outside* since ever eating meat*
I fuck since my five years old,
born as a dragon with a hole in the rear.
*
Don’t say love to me* don’t say you care
- you don’t give a shit, and so do I ! As soon as Ill meet you, Ill fuck
you – all this tendreness is too heavy, it drips out of your balls – come
here*I meet you at the border* where I am hitting and hit by silence* by the
flat eyes of my hooker and junkie twins* what part of myself will cross
at first ?*after the projection we start to fuck*I suck a body ten times
heavier than mine*what is the weight of rape ?of justice ?of
hate ?crack my ass smoke my puke love my skeleton*I am not the one you
fuck*I am the one who wanks alone under bloody trees*savage and raffinate bite
of a skull with milky teeth*I may be the cock pissing over the world*pissing
and pissing
on harmony
and God*
I am hungry, always want to fuck and spit
out the gift of your cock*
lightening eyes of a whip* I don’t want
to die as a slave!*
Chicks dig scars, everyone knows that, right? Meet Severence DeSnappio, a man who creates ‘fake’ injuries for desperate clients. He’ll get you a stab wound, shot gun blast, snowboarding injury - but a bite from a great white shark?
Set in Miami, Chicks Dig scars is a lyrical, Lynchian mix of dream logic and hard boiled detection.
