It’s not about keeping it real, or being true to the game – it’s about being true to Buff1. Seasoned mic veteran Buff1 approaches his sophomore solo album There’s Only One, with a classic debut behind him, successful National and European tours under his belt, and deafening buzz from the blog-o-sphere. Buff1’s commanding presence on and off stage, has earned him a die-hard fan-base ready to beat their speakers up with his latest release. Whether rocking a party anthem, a political burner or a soulful banger, one thing is certain – Buff consistently delivers. If you think there’s another Buff1 in the game, keep searching…There’s Only One.
Ten years after Athletic Mic League (AML) came together as teenagers, the men that fill out its roster have spent over a decade perfecting their lyrical skills and writing, working out the most satisfying stage performances and opening for hip-hop’s elite acts. AML has shared the stage with Eminem, Mos Def, De La Soul, Slum Village, Jurassic 5, Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Little Brother and Ghostface Killah to name a few, always capturing the attention and respect of the large, often cynical audiences. Following the underground success of their own Lab Techs produced, Jungle Gym Jungle in 2005 on Barak Records (Slum Village), the remaining six members approached Buff with a new plan: it was time to bring him to the forefront as a solo artist.
In 2007, Buff1 officially became a respected solo act with the release of his critically acclaimed debut Pure. Real Detroit Weekly crowned Buff1 “Best Solo Rap Artist of 2007.” Okayplayer gave Pure 4.5/5 afros, exclaiming “This album, my friends, is incredible…classic like thriller jackets”. Listeners should expect nothing less from There’s Only One.
In 2008, with the successful release of “There’s Only One” Buff recieved rave reviews from XXL (“if it ain’t Buff, it ain’t right”), OkayPlayer, Vapors, XLR8R and URB Magazine who selected Buff to stand among their annual Next 100 in 2009. Currently Buff1 is in the studio with DJ Rhettmatic (of the World Famous Beat Junkies) working on their collaborative project, Crown Royale.
Features appearances from Black Milk, Athletic Mic League and Now On. Production from The Lab Techs and Black Milk.
