Busted Peach looks like a band, but is actually a culturally rich and self-sustaining village of four people who come from a variety of musical backgrounds. Within this village, the influences of African, Latin, and Middle Eastern percussion have been applied to songwriting that is harmonically rich and lyrically playful. Band members include singer and guitarist, Jonah Geil-Neufeld, bassist Eli Leki, and percussionists Natalia Washington and Harley Meyer. Their musical interests range from traditional Cajun, Sacred Harp, and American Folk to Malian Griot, Spanish Flamenco, and Pakistani Qawwali. Busted Peach’s debut album, Brown Paper Bag, was released in May of 2007, and since then, the band has played in and around Chicago, most notably at Uncommon Ground and The Hideout. They are constantly re-imagining their material and incorporating interesting covers for their live shows, which are energizing and danceable. As a proudly Chicago-oriented and self-produced group, Busted Peach loves playing in churches, homes, street festivals, and their portable, acoustic sound makes them great for parties and intimate gatherings.
