biography
button up was created by Garry John Kane and Ross Mcfarlane around 1998 to
play Hammond jazz instrumental music to play in and around Glasgow
"especially Mark Robbs buff club" as at the time no one was playing that
kind of wonderful music. It developed into something special and produced a
debut album "jazz casuals" in 1999 featuring Paul Gallagher ..boards,
Ally McLeod on guitar, Ken Mccluskey on harmonica, Jim Wingate on percussion and produced by Greg Kane for Kudzu.
After the underground success of "jazz casuals" the band moved on and became players for other bands including - the proclaimers, Marianne Faithfull, Justin Currie, mull historical society, mccluskey brothers, gentle waves, the poems and pat Kane to name but a few.
Since 2004 with the production talent of mark freegard button up have
"in between extensive touring commitments with other bands" been putting the new 10 track album together "No dancin' on the Tables". It features Andy May on all keyboards, guitars by Stuart Nisbet and one track by Brian "the flame" Mcfie. Also featuring the fantastic vocal of
Justin Currie on 3 tracks with additional vocals on 2 tracks by the wonderful Joseph Malik. The horn section on the album consists of Tom Macniven "Trumpets" and Rick Taylor "Trombone" and complete a fine line up. There are 5 tracks that are instrumental keeping with the original button up idea.
The following tracks feature on the new 10 track button up album "No dancin' on the Tables" available on i-tunes.napster and c.d
enjoy these exclusive mixes and thanks for listening.
take care peace, love and friendship.

wow just a handful more of gigs and plenty of rest for you then eh? i wish i could slack off but alas just a couple of months of hardship (really gotta finish my masters- grrr) and hopefully i will be free as a bird. i had a bit of a run- in with my cowbag boss at work and it's really given me a bigger incentive to want to leave my job; she basically treated me like sh** and i should not have to put up with it! i will let you know how it goes with the outcome of this course, hopefully will be outta here by crimbo. not sure if that is being too optimistic? really tempted by inverness gig but maybe it will be too pricey (petrol) to drive up and stuff... we will see... xx
Thanks for reaching out to me. I am truly honored.. Are you kidding? Any project that Justin Currie is taking on, I want to hear...I am looking forward to listening to it ALL! ...JS, A.C. , NJ - USA
I've been playing your CD for all my friends and they love it. I told them to go get their own copy on iTunes and some of them have. I hope the rest will follow suit.
It was really great seeing you on May 1st. I had a fantastic time. I can't wait for you to come back next year. Have a great rest of your tour here in the USA!
Hello button up, pleased to meet you. Thanks for your friend request. Look forward to discovering and learning about you and your music. You certainly look a lively bunch, hope your patter is as good as i suspect it might be.
Thanks for the add! Plunks in the May 3rd date in her wee calendar. Sounds like great stuff! You're lucky Devotchka is playing First Ave. on May 7th! Cheers!
I sure wish you could've headed out to Texas. Still listen to your album constantly and just downloaded the new Proclaimers album, which I am anxious to listen to.
