Grammy-nominated composer and bass player Chris Maresh began his professional music career in Austin, Texas in 1984 after receiving a BM in Applied Double Bass with emphasis in Jazz Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. He has explored many musical styles, and has performed and recorded: jazz, classical, rock, country, salsa, tango, and folk music. Currently Chris divides his time between recording, live performances, and touring. He has played venues ranging from small clubs to theaters and outdoor stadiums in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Chris' performing career has included: live performances with Bonnie Raitt (1997, 2003,2004); Michael McDonald and Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers (2004); Willy Nelson (2004); David "Fathead" Newman (2004) large ensemble work with Ellis Marsalis (1998) and the Austin Symphony (1996); the Lardeo Symphony (2003); tours with Eric Johnson (2001, 2003, 2004), and Abra Moore (1998); Kelly Willis (2002) and Monte Montgomery (1997-2003). He is a sought after session player in Austin, where he has recorded with many local and visiting artists, including Grammy winner Eric Johnson (with whom he appears in the DVD of Eric Clapton's "Crossroads" Festival) and Grammy nominee Marcia Ball (2003). Chris played on the soundtracks of Spy Kids 2 and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and on music which appeared in Michael, Happy Texas, and Sliding Doors.
In 2001 his first original composition, "Rain", was nominated for a Grammy (best performance of a pop instrumental). Chris played on this power trio recording (from "Live and Beyond") with Alien Love Child. In 2002 he released Tomorrow, ten original tunes, (recorded direct to disc with no edits). In the spring of 2002 Chris ventured into the classical realm with a string quartet commissioned by the Tosca String Quartet, which premiered his work "Two Stars". His compositions extended to tango in 2003-- 2004 brought new tangos, a piece for percussion, string quintet and piano premiered by Terry Bozzio with the Tosca Strings (now in David Byrnes group), and a new collection of original jazz, side street.
