"We must live outside of passion, beyond sentiment, in the harmony of a true work of art, in that enchanting order. We must love one another so much that we live outside of time. Detached. Detached.”
--Steiner in La Dolce Vita, F. Fellini, 1960
Clock Hands Strangle has completed their second full-length album, "DISTACCATI," scheduled to be released June 12, 2009. "Distaccati" is at once a natural and perplexing progression from the band's debut full-length, "Redshift/Blueshift," with bolder, more polished songwriting and well-studied lyrics. Though not a concept album, "Distaccati," at its outset, casts the listener as a pilgrim who must trek--through an infernal outer-space, guided by Walt Whitman; through New York City and an Alabama cotton field; across an arid desert and a frozen desert--to the final track. With the obstinacy of the Bible's Job--who appears on the album's cover--and the mad, subjective objectivity of an alchemist,"Distaccati" questions the creator of our universe, while musing on the earth's infinitesimal place in the cosmos.
"Distaccati is on my short list for a top ten album of the year . . . when listened to in its entirety, it sounds more like an essay than a collection of thoughts."
--Berkeley Place, 2009
"Imagine a convergence of ALL, Meat Puppets and the Wrens. . . . A joy, pure and simple. A lot of my friends ask me why I listen to a hundred or two dreadful albums a month. An album like this is all the answer I need. Flat out brilliant."
--Jon Worley, Aiding and Abetting, 2009

BIOGRAPHY:
Formed in 2004 in Melbourne, FL, Clock Hands Strangle has been refining their thoughtfully-crafted music for five years--resulting are precise, philosophically engaging compositions that, with repeat listens, reveal a rewarding complexity. In a review of 'Redshift/Blueshift,' Amplifier referred to the songwriting of Clock Hands Strangle as "impeccable, with lyrics that are full of swoops and swirls, properly aligned to tight instrumentation."
Tour History includes three extensive tours of the eastern half of the U.S. (with stops in Canada), two tours of the east coast, and a brief Florida tour with Do Make Say Think. In March 2009, Clock Hands returned from the road, touring in support of their upcoming release of "Distaccati," where they recorded a Daytrotter session (to be available when Daytrotter feels like it), and taped a puppet-led interview with Chicago's wonderful "Chi-ca-go-go" (see blog post).
