Indie/Disco/Rock/Strange Pop ... just like the three songs playing in the demo player above!
A bit like a pick-n-mix, but with fewer marshmallows, Cloud Atlas alternately bring relentless sugar highs and dirty, shimmering lows; anthemic choruses, flashy lights and full-fat pop hooks.
Cloud Atlas first started to make noises together in early 2006, and played their first gig in a tiny bar in the Welsh valleys in a 'stage' area no bigger than a tea-tray, with a drum kit held together with bits of string and brillo pads. Eight gigs later, the band were selected from thousands by none other than Rob da Bank of Radio 1, to play at the 'JD Set Unsigned', and played a rather more upscale gig in London, to a very positive reception from media and industry types. This was aired on Channel 4 in July 2007 (psst... check YouTube!). The band have also gained the attention of BBC radio Wales and some bloggers and podcasters and the like... the tracks 'Light' and 'Even Astronauts' are also to be featured in a couple of upcoming independent films, so watch this space!
Cloud Atlas have recently put down a few more tracks, on a record entitled 'No one is sad up here'. This you can buy from all upcoming gigs for no more than a few shillings. All covers are handcrafted using the band's own spittle and paper they trampled themselves from tree bark.
Keep checking back for news and live dates!
Here are some nice things people have said:
"moments of true delight and genuine foot-tapping" - Cardiff Uni Quench Magazine
"Cardiff just keeps on churning out quality bands, and in that spirit, I’m happy to present Cloud Atlas for your listening pleasure....‘Even Astronauts’ is one of their newer recordings, demonstrating a frantic energy... I have no idea what the song is actually about, but it’s far too fun for me to be worried about trivial details like that." - Another Form of Relief
"This group delivers original music with multi-talented musicians. Combine their talents with the overwhelming energy they exude and you've got yourself some amazing tunes!" : Bring Me Up
"they play with a sort of individual freedom and yet everything comes together superbly and with a strong sense of unity and solidarity - there's something very likeable about Cloud Atlas..." : Peter J Brown a.k.a Toxic Pete
Even Astronauts, S is for Sleep and Cigarettes and Apricots were recorded and mixed at The Crash Factory in Nottingham
Light was recorded and mixed at Cardiff SoundScene studios

james here, ex wow drummer and now some form of stand up comedian. you may remember not so long ago i enquired about staying over this month whilst doing a comedy gig for henry widdicombe. well it turns out i'm doing more gigs now than i thought i was and was wondering if i could ask a huge favour which is... on the night of the 17th i am gigging in swindon, would it be cool if straight after my gig i get on a train to cardiff, meet a merry cloud atlas soul at the station and proceed to stay over their house for a couple of nights? i know this seems rather cheeky but you know what us wow boys are like - we're cheeky. my mobile is 07785947525 if this makes things easier

Too kind! Too kind! The Shire continues to rock and The Cowleys are back in the studio recording "Not Dead Yet", so titled due to George's recent and serious cancer op.The slide on the Alberts stuff is Clive S.R.Kennard. Respecting your musical virtuosity.Pete
