Realmente, cuando uno conoce a una banda española que tiene la suerte de editar su trabajo fuera, no puede hacer otra cosa más que alegrarse por ello. Este es el caso de los andaluces Com.Pulsion, quienes hace unos años editaron su debut “Machines” bajo el amparo del sello italiano Decadance, cuando este sello estaba, como el que dice, empezando a crecer, dando oportunidad a nuevas bandas, nuevas formas de expresión o, simplemente, formaciones no establecidas en los países punteros, las cuales a buen seguro que siempre tendrán más facilidad de editar un CD que alguien que se tiene que mover de otra forma. Su primer disco presentaba a una formación centrada en un synth-pop escuela De/Vision y los siempre presentes Depeche, mostrando un disco correcto, lleno de ilusión y con ganas de seguir madurando como músicos. Juanju, Luis y Miguel, integrantes del proyecto, ya estaban en el camino. De repente, poco se supo de ellos por parte del sello.
Es ahora, a comienzos de este 2009 cuando vuelven con muchas novedades. La más importante sin duda es el cambio de casa, o debería decir, el haber vuelto a su casa (que no es China, como dice el título del álbum) para hacer lo que les apetece sin restricciones ni condicionamientos por parte de un sello. Esto último no lo entiendo, porque este trabajo es un muy muy buen ejercicio de synth-pop arriesgado y maduro, compuesto por doce temas bien construídos sobre bases complejas que no dejan de lado ningún detalle de programación, como ocurre en el tema que abre el CD, el estupendo “King Of Shadows”, volcando en algunos cortes una actitud rockista que los emparenta de nuevo con la fascinante formación alemana De/Vision y sus últimas producciones, mucho más abiertas y repletas de detalles. Es lo que “Made In China” tiene en su haber. No es quizá un pop electrónico que entre a la primera, repleto de hits y temazos directos a la pista, aunque sí se muestren más accesibles en algunos temas como la increíble “Time will take you”, que me ha traído a la memoria a unos Lethargy por su elegante spoken word femenino y la elegancia de su música, perfectamente pinchable en esas sesiones de club que nada tienen que ver con las fiestas a las que de vez en cuando acudimos los fines de semana. Por algo hacen pop electrónico, a veces más atormentado y de ribetes acústicos (“Dragged and Defeated”), pero pop al fin y al cabo. Realmente no entiendo cómo Decadance no les ha editado este CD pues, en mi humilde opinión, creo que es muy superior a las últimas referencias editadas por el sello italiano, pero claro, esto es una suposición mía, porque igual, en un gesto torero, han sido ellos los que han pasado de editar con el sello por motivos que sólo ellos conocen. En cualquier caso, y dejando un lado el amarillismo, felicitarles por este recomendable disco que demuestra que si estuviésemos en frontera con los “países pudientes”, a bandas como esta se las rifarían para editarles el CD, y si no, siempre nos quedará China. De nuevo Felicidades por esta progresión aplastante.

The spanish trio composed by Luis Alcazar, Juanju Rodriguez and Miguel Lacal strikes back with a new surprising album, Made in China, 13 tracks where they assemble best synthpop and guitars in a unique sound wich identifies them. There's not only electro sounds, but a singular attitude that take a shape into memorable tracks difficult to forget. If the first album Machines was a futuristic one, here is a more melodic, less rythmic release, defining a mature, developped sound. You can like it or not, but you'll find out something different for sure. Tracks like King of shadows (wich opens the album), Time will take you or Stop, punching basses and kicks, resonating synths and very processed vocals, tracks that remind the roughest side of electronic music. Hypnotic sound on So fine or Red (with it's vocoders round and round) that mix kind of uplifting rythms and experimental flickers. Head in the clouds or Still I feel seems to take charge of the release's most commercial or easy listening side. Nice choruses and verses, soft synths and recognisable beats; anyway, this is Com.pulsion, so they always hide a wink to surprise the audience on these tracks. Maybe the less identifiable piece is Filthy, a dark guitar song joining very electronic beats and sadomasochist lyrics, you can dance it but you hardly can,revealing anxiety, sin and finally surrender. Maybe the most brilliant contribution of guitar player Miguel Duarte. Then, we find songs like Dragged and defeated, Silk skin or I saw you, with most emotional words inside, beautiful melodies, mid tempo beats. I saw you ends up the album with a progressive developpement of sounds and feelings. A broken guitar, and then...the end.
Or maybe not, because the counter keeps going .. the last track...To resume, the band has surpassed the insecurities of their first release with this second one. A well assembled set of songs, a polished production, a high quality artwork. A longlife music piece to be enjoyed over and over again.
Special mention to the fact that this is a double CD, with a CD2 including 9 remixes by the hands of spanish electronic scene like Ziclope+Scud Hero, Debod, Computah, Sonorama or Faz, and other artist like Compute (Sweden), Arkade, Candorboy or Zhyn.
