  • Bio

Coriolis is an electronic hard rock band, based in Northeast Pennsylvania. The brainchild of founder Jonathan P. Stamets, Coriolis is something brand new in a genre that has become saturated with repetitive loops and redundant themes. “ We like to say that we sound like Rammstein and Stabbing Westward, fastened with Nine Inch Nails," says Jonathan. This project began in 2002, under the name Thundara. “I didn't really know much about producing at the time, but I learn by "doing;" so, I just started recording some stuff in my laundry room with a bunch of second-hand gear... and people really liked it!” Jonathan explains. Thundara released a self-produced nine song extended demo, which received a very positive response from the industrial music scene online. Eventually, Thundara was renamed as “Coriolis,” and was soon signed to PsychoacoustiX Records. PsychoacoustiX Records released the debut self-titled Coriolis album, which is still currently receiving very positive critical reviews, attention from the film/TV industry, and fan support. Recently, Coriolis has evolved from a studio project into a live performing band as well, with the addition of guitarist Danny Schultz, drummer Jim Yanus, and keyboardist kL, (formerly of Wedding Party.) Coriolis puts great effort into perfecting their live show. “We’re not the type of band to get up there with a laptop and put on a karaoke show. Backing tracks are meant to enhance a band, not replace them,” says Jonathan. The second album by Coriolis has just been released under Youngside Records. It is titled "The Endless Funeral," and is a very dark concept album with cynical themes, and an underlying message of hope through perseverance. Jonathan explains, "This is pure honesty, and written from personal experiences. The ONLY reason that I've refused to sugar-coat these songs and put a religious spin on the album is because I'm not the only one who's gone through these things, and people need to know that they're not alone. There's nothing sinful about questioning your faith, your leaders, or yourself. Avoiding these questions, or denying that these problems exist leads to hypocrisy. Facing them makes you stronger in the end." Musically, the album is over an hour long, and has a vast range of influences, including Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Smashing Pumpkins, and even Dire Straits. Coriolis is enjoying a busy concert schedule in their region of Pennsylvania, and looking forward to expanding their show schedule outward to surrounding regions..
