Innovators of the fused musical genre BA-HI-RE (Mix of Bachata, Hip Hop and Reggaeton) and surprisingly based out
of Montreal, Canada, CRIOLLO is a 4 member Latin Urban group that shares mutual Dominican roots and the facility
to entertain in the world’s 3 major languages: English, French and of course Spanish.
The triple-tongue-threat family member group, who produce their own music and videos, leaked a 5 song ep titled
“EL Pre-Album”in 2006 promoting their much anticipated 19 track debut album “Bahire” which was released by One
Island Music and co-produced by France-based producer Nabil Ghrib that same year. CRIOLLO packaged the
musically well balanced and yet nostalgic album with poetic phrasing devoted to the roots they inherited from their
native island of Dominican Republic - “Bahire” is a musical gamble spotlighting in a league of its own.
CRIOLLO members Jose “Chiro” Mata and “Gilbert “Giby” Capellan are cousins-in-law, while Salvador “Sol” Valdez
with Alexis “Gordo” Grullon are first cousins. This starting line up has no space for bench warmers, as each member
brilliantly brings his own special talent to the musical court; video and music director Sol and producer/rapper Chiro
focus more on the overall song creation, pretty-boy guitarist Gibby composes by adding his sensual R&B essence to
the catchy hook of each song and rapper/graffiti-artist Gordo brings the hardcore yet consciously phrased hip-hop
zest. The combined melody and lyrical mélange are as unique as the multilingual slang heard on each track, yet the
highlight of their production is definitely the brain-washing “Cri-Cri-Criollo” anthem chant, by which the crowds
accompany them to open and close live performances everywhere.
From New York to Miami, in early 2008 CRIOLLO set out on a USA promotional tour for their album “Bahire” and were
featured on various popular Spanish-speaking TV programs including Univision Urban show “The Roof” and
“Despierta America” the most watched Hispanic morning show in the states.
An excellent article was also written about “Bahire” on “The Miami Herald” and of course on the USA version of
“Periodico Hoy”, a very popular newspaper in Dominican Republic.
Slightly after their mini American promo tour, the group also travelled to Santo Domingo, where CRIOLLO got a
chance to perform on “Sabados de Corporan”, the 1 entertainment show on their native island. In addition to their
online mass promo, and their feature on “AOL Latino Bands to Watch”, they received considerable support and
airplay from all the top radio stations in the Dominican Republic.
Over the years and as part of the bittersweet national hustle, CRIOLLO has blessed many key stages such as the
Annual Montreal Merengue Festival, World Rhythms Festival, L'Agora in Quebec City, Metropolis Nightclub in
Montreal and TLN Latin Fest in Toronto, Canada. Their record breaking sold out “Bahire” CD release party in 2006 at
Club Soda in Montreal was equally memorable, for CRIOLLO to date, is the first non-English and non-French
speaking group to surpass capacity at this particular theatre.
Notably on these stages CRIOLLO was given the opportunity to perform with Tego Claderon (Reggaeton Icon), Elvis
Crespo (International Merengue Act), Fat Joe (Urban Latin Hip Hip artist), Rakim y Ken-Y (Reggaeton Pop Duo), IAM
and Psy 4 De La Rime (French Hip Hop groups from Marseille, France).
CRIOLLO’s latest release is called “Mi Adiccion” (My Addiction) which features Giby on R&B/Euro vocals and Gordo
on Rap. With this first single from their second album “El Portal”, their Bahire fusion is taking on a more universal-pop
sound which will transport the listener into different musical galaxies.

Innovadores del genero musical BA-HI-RE (compuesto por Bachata, Hip Hop y Reggaeton) y sorprendentemente
radicados en la ciudad de Montreal, Canadá, los 4 miembros del grupo latino urbano CRIOLLO comparten mutuas
raíces Dominicanas y la asombrosa aptitud de entretener en los 3 idiomas principales: Ingles, Frances y por supuesto en
Español.
Disponiendo de su amenaza trilingüe, los integrantes de CRIOLLO, que en realidad son familia, producen sus propios
temas y videos musicales. En 2006 lanzaron un exitoso maxi de 5 canciones titulado “EL Pre-Album”, como refuerzo
promocional para su primer disco “Bahire” de 19 temas, que también salio ese mismo año. “Bahire” nació bajo el sello
de One Island Music y fue co-producido por Nabil Ghrib, un reconocido productor musical radicado en Francia.
CRIOLLO ha empaquetado este versátil y a la vez nostálgico disco con frases poéticas devotadas a las raíces que
heredaron de su isla nativa, La Republica Dominicana.
“Bahire” definitivamente es un riesgo musical, sobresaliente en su propia liga.
Los 4 miembros de CRIOLLO - Jose “Chiro” Mata, “Gilbert “Giby” Capellan, Salvador “Sol” Valdez y Alexis “Gordo”
Grullon son primos. Cada individuo ingeniosamente aporta su propio talento a la hora de la prueba: el productor de
canciones y videos musicales (Sol) junto con el rapero y productor (Chiro) se responsabilizan más con la supervisión de
las grabaciones y del producto completo. El guitarrista y cara-bonita del grupo (Gibby) compone con su propia esencia
de R&B y a la vez adorna el pegajoso coro de las canciones con su angélica voz, mientras que (Gordo) el rapero y
creativo artista de graffiti, trae el tono agresivo con su estilo de Hip Hop consciente. La melodía y lírica combinada por
todos es tan inolvidable como la jerga multilingüe que aparece en cada tema, pero aun así, el golpe musical seria
definitivamente el lava-cerebros himno del grupo que energéticamente repite “Cri-Cri-Criollo”. Con dicho coro es que
abren y cierran sus presentaciones por todas partes, acompañados por las voces de sus fans.
Desde Nueva York hasta Miami, en 2008 CRIOLLO se fue de gira promocional a los Estados Unidos, para introducir su
disco “Bahire” y se presentaron en varios programas televisivos de habla-hispana, incluyendo el show urbano de
Univision “The Roof” y “Despierta America”, el programa mas visto por las mañanas. Además, les publicaron un
excelente artículo sobre “Bahire” en “The Miami Herald” y por supuesto contaron con una buena nota en el “Periódico
Hoy” (versión Americana) del popular periódico Dominicano.
Poco después de su mini gira promocional, viajaron a Santo Domingo, donde CRIOLLO tuvo la oportunidad de
presentarse en “Sábados de Corporan” el show 1 de entretenimiento en “Quisqueya la bella”. Por otra parte y
conjuntamente con su inmensa publicidad de Internet, fueron publicados en “AOL Latino Bands to Watch”, y también
recibieron un extenso apoyo de las principales estaciones de radio en La Republica Dominicana.
A través de los años y parte de su duro recorrido nacional, CRIOLLO ha bendecido muchos escenarios, entre ellos el
famoso Festival del Merengue en Montreal, World Rhythms Festival, L'Agora en Quebec City, Metropolis Nightclub en
Montreal y TLN Latin Fest en Toronto, Canada. En el 2006, la fiesta para el lanzamiento de “Bahire” en Club Soda de
Montreal, fue un éxito total. Hasta la fecha de hoy, ningún otro artista que no sea Anglo o Frances, ha logrado agotar la
taquilla en ese teatro como lo hizo CRIOLLO.
En dichos eventos CRIOLLO ha tenido el honor de compartir la tarima con artistas como Tego Calderon (Reggaetonero),
Elvis Crespo (Merenguero), Fat Joe (Artista Latino de Hip Hip), Rakim y Ken-Y (Pop Duo Reggaetonero), IAM and Psy 4
De La Rime (Grupos de Hip Hop en Marseille, France).
El nuevo sencillo de CRIOLLO, titulado “Mi Adicción” exhibe a Giby con sus vocales de R&B con un toque de Música
Euro, acompañado por Gordo en el Rap. Esta primera canción de su segundo disco “El Portal” introduce un estilo más
pop-universal que transportara a sus escuchadores a una diferente galaxia musical.
