Danny Ozark's Blurbs |
About me:
Wanna see me perform stand-up? It's easy, just go to YouTube.com and search "Danny Ozark." Or check me out at some of the upcoming fine shows posted above. I've also recently begun working as DJ at Philly's premiere comedy club-- THE LAFF HOUSE. When I first started telling jokes on stage in 2003, it was an exciting time but far cry creatively from back in the 1990's when I routinely got love from all over the globe as a columnist known as "The Rap Bandit" for VIBE and THE SOURCE magazines. I blazed hip-hop in those now long gone days by making fun of rappers in a way very few others were pulling off. Most of the column's success was because my real identity remained totally anonymous, and this allowed me to get away with clowning rappers under no threat of physical revenge from them, at a time when my peers were often held accountable for their words. As I got older (and whiter), though, I began losing my "hip-hop" fastball. Life just throws curves and I basically fell off. In rap music, people are prone to falling off, so I was fortunate to re-invent my path. Doing stand-up comedy now is a weird existence for sure but enormously fun and something I was destined to do. I've performed at many venues large and smalll, and have been the opening act for the legendary band BLONDIE as well as comics from HBO and COMEDY CENTRAL. It's such a thrill to be up on stage and hear people laughing, whether I'm on a show at some little dive bar, or even the times I've been lucky to serve as the opening act for the great comic REV. BOB LEVY of "HOWARD STERN SHOW" fame. A personal highlight and honor for me occured in 2009 when a phone call I made almost 25 years earlier ended up on Act II of the epic production "History Of Howard Stern Show" for Sirius/XM Radio. By 2006 I began making extremely well-received in-studio guest appearances on the highly-rated, nationally-respected "KIDD CHRIS SHOW" radio program. Host CHRIS FOLEY (a frequent "Howard Stern Show" contributor himself) had "discovered" me at a Philly-area open mic. On-air he quickly emerged as the first (and most likely only) person to ever fully utilize both the comedic value and compelling truth of my messed-up life. The show also broke the story about my nefarious involvement with "PANTYGATE"-- a two-day hysteria in 2007 that generated some national coverage and massive local interest in Philly, Jersey and Delaware regarding my "rummaging" through a well-known local TV newswoman's lingerie drawer while at a party and discussing it in frank manner on-air. I soon after sincerely apologized to her by phone and she was kind enough to accept. In mid-2007 I appeared on a nationally-aired stand-up comedy contest broadcast live on the popular "OPIE & ANTHONY SHOW" on XM Radio. First prize was a shot as opening act on the Philly stop of the hugely successful "Travelling Virus" comedy tour. I didnt win, but shocked the world by advancing to the final round and was interviewed live on-air by the great comedian JIM NORTON about our mutual affinity for shemales. A snafu involving the winner not accepting the prize necessitated another contest, and the second competition did not go as well for me. Held in a large theater in Philly a few months later, and also broadcast nationally, I had a terrible set. The audience responded with a predictable chorus of booing, and I lashed back with an unpredictable, semi-deranged, mostly F-bomb laced tirade while continuously sticking my middle fingers out at the crowd. Before leaving the stage I also got in a very minor and brief physical confrontation with O&A cast member CLUB SODA KENNY (the 6-foot, 9-inch former bodyguard of ANDREW "DICE" CLAY) which resulted in me being physically removed from the building by a Philly cop. Clearly I spazzed out that day but you know it felt good defending myself and in reality he grabbed after me first so fuck it . If you live in or near Philly, or are visiting this great city, the last Monday of every month visit a real cool spot NATIONAL MECHANICS where I co-host the city's best open mic of music and comedy with gorgeous acoustic sensation DANI MARI for A.D. AMOROSI's "Monday Night Club." You also gotta check out the roving event "SOUR GRAPES" -- a bitterly hilarious open mic/rant fest which features regular citizens complaining about the depressing aspects of their personal, professional and sex lives. I've written for RealGm.com (2009), THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER (1996-98), PENTHOUSE VARIATIONS (1993-94), Like.com (2000-01), Gamecrib.com (2000-2002) and RapNetwork.com (1999-2002) among others. Record labels CBS, GAME and EASTERN CONFERENCE have utilized me to write marketing materials for rap acts including EMINEM, ROYCE THE 5-9, LORD DIGGA, THE SMUT PEDDLERS, AGALLAH and THE HIGH & MIGHTY. I also served as a segment producer and writer for some episodes of the top-selling adult-DVD series "THE HIP-HOP HONEYS." Prior to that I rocked local Philly props at WUSL-FM (Power 99) as morning show producer/on-air sidekick "PISTOL PETE" of "THE CARTER & SANBORN" program. Media outlets that have profiled or cited me include THE COMEDIANS mag (2009), HIP-HOP CONNECTION mag (2008), Unkut.com (2008) THE PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS (2005-09), PHILADELPHIA GAY NEWS (2008), THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER (2007-08), PHILADELPHIA CITY PAPER (2004-09), NEW YORK mag (1994), GQ mag (1993), St. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH (1993) and THE WASHINGTON POST (1992). All I can do is keep working, keep writing and keep trying to make you laugh.
