Carol Weekes's Interests
|
| General | First and foremost: writing. After that, working with stained glass, anything outdoors (kayaking, biking, hiking, etc.); love all animals, reading, getting together with people; playing hand drums; BOOKS (always...reading and writing), the drinking of quality dark ales with a good slice of sharp cheese on the plate, travel, the occult, anything that suddenly piques my fancy. | | Music | Love classic rock and blues; listen to some jazz and classical; have a penchant for African and Latin-American drums and other percussion instruments. | | Movies | All Horror films, excellent drama, and spontaneous comedy.
Some favorite producers: Spielberg, Cronenberg, Tarantino, Coppola...and that's only scratching the surface but it isn't as if we can write a novel in these little boxes... | | Television | Seldom watch it, other than for viewing films: it is the proverbial time waster. If I want to keep up with the news, I read newspapers. | | Books | Good Horror, Crime, Speculative fiction, Mainstream; any well-composed collection of short stories (be it single or multi-authored); quality non-fiction in the venues of memoir, historical, environmental, nature, occult/paranormal, and academic. | | Heroes | First and foremost: my family.
Secondly, anyone who is willing to face a challenge with the attitude that they will succeed; motto: If life gets tough, chew on it a little longer, then wash it down with a quality ale and keep smiling...
Writers who persist and believe in themselves until they get their work published: it's not easy, but the moment you give up is the moment that you'll never see publication: keep at it, do your best work, and the rewards will come. |

About me:

This site is dedicated to my writing, both long and short, and where it will appear - to share writing info and to network with other writers, as well as fans who enjoy good books.
The first book being the release of my novel "Walter's Crossing", through NSP Books; a ghost story that blends the ugliness of bullying and the realm of the paranormal into a high-action book filled with car chases, nightmares, mirrors that aren't safe, linen closet doors that pop open in quiet houses, a fear of not only shadows, but of daylight and warm summer winds and the echoes of an incident that lingers and grows in a seaside town.
Additionally, to tell of news of my upcoming novel release "Ouroboros", co-written with Horror author Michael Kelly, which will be available through HUMDRUMMING LTD. in London, England in 2008. Stay tuned for updates there and check out their fine site and wonderful books at
http://www.humdrumming.co.uk/
I'm a writer who also helps pay the rent as a part-time college teacher within the realms of Creative Writing and Business Communications. I've been writing primarily in the Horror genre since the early 1990's. I've published multiple short stories in myriad magazines and anthologies in the horror, sci-fi, and speculative fields. Recently, I've made headway with some short pieces in some Canadian literary journals too, including 'The Dalhousie Review' and 'Prairie Journal'. My work has been nominated for the Bram Stoker and Aurora Awards, and most recently for The Journey Prize. I love Horror Authors; our minds might be warped, but Horror writers are some of the nicest people I know.
|
Who I'd like to meet:
Some writers: Steve King, Clive Barker, Joe. R. Lansdale, Robert Bloch, Tom Piccirilli, Anne Rice, Karen E. Taylor, Donna Taylor Burgess, Ramsey Campbell, Steve Rasmic and Melanie Tem, John Grisham, Mitch Albom, Greg Gifune. All of them.
Anyone who is innovative, believes in themselves, loves animals and nature, and is nice to be around.
