Dave Baxter Valentine: One Original Mobile Comic, One Dozen Different Languages http://lnk.ms/3MxbNPosted at 12:13 AM Dec 10 from Ping.fm view more
My novel (for those of you who knew of it), is currently 100% stalled. My artist seems to have bailed, which is how these things sometimes go, and I now have to bide my time until I have the funds to hire another.
Furthermore, I recently began (and am nearly finished) reading a book that has become my all-time favorite, the world over - WINTER'S TALE by Mark Helprin.
You can read a review of the book that doesn't give anything away, plus lots of juicy quotes from the book itself that will either electrify or utterly turn you off, and so you'll know whether you want to pursue this one or not. One Amazon.com review put it perfectly: "Sheer Insanity and Gorgeous Magic". That's this book in a form-fitting nutshell.
Basically, Helprin tries to do a lot of what my own novel vied to achieve, and now I feel there are certain changes that would benefit the story tremendously. Rarely does the influence of reading inspire one to go back and alter what's already compelte, but now that I've got some time on my hands before I see the book through to its on-the-shelf end, and because WINTER'S TALE affected me THAT bloody much, I am indeed going to make some serious alterations, and I'm excited to see how they'll re-color my story. Yippee!
Co-written with my girlfriend, Gillian Horvat, our first print-published work will be a part of the Love-themed anthology, "LESS THAN THREE", edited by Len N. Wallace, the writer of the upcoming ONI GN "LOVE BUZZ"
Our story is an 8-pager titled "Gillian's Heart: Diamonds are a West African Warlord's Best Friend", art by "SHADES OF BLUE" and "GOTHAM GIRLS'" Cal Slayton, introducing a super-heroine concept we plan to persue into its/her own mini-series.
Let's take a moment to go 100% Info-mercial and scam website and show you guys a "true" (we swear!) testamonial:
Here's what the anthology's super-star editor, Len Wallace, had to say on his own blog about our little yarn (click on his pic to go to said blog and see the proof! We never lie! We only omit!):
"Dave and Gillian gave me everything I asked for in a superhero story. It's different, it's fun and flighty and has some pretty great dialogue to it. It reminds me of some of the best aspects of Dan Slott's She-Hulk run"
NICE!!! Compared to Slott's SHE-HULK!!!
Whoo-hoo, baby.
Oh, and that costumed squirrel there in the Myspace background is the sidekick!!! Rendered by none other than the insanely talented Rick Worley, who you haven't heard of yet, but oh, you will.
"Diamond's are a West African..." is the first GILLIAN'S HEART story, to be followed by an 8-page short in the upcoming HERO INITIATIVE/RONIN STUDIOS HOPE ANTHOLOGY, starring Gillian's nemesis...MR. RIGHT! That second short will feature Mr. Worley's first work with us, though we hope to keep him on board for more, but you can never (legally) jam a syringe full of Scopolamine into an artist's neck to create your own zombie art-making sla...uh...hmmmmm.
Okay, let's say he's with us. Until, oh, you know, the bitter end ;)
Here's a sneak peek at the art on the first 8-page Gillian's Heart story (copyright Me and Cal Slayton):
Beyond that? I'm also:
Continuing the in-depth comic book coverage concept of the right here and now:
SAMURAI ELF VOLUME 2: BULL'S EYE by Miguel Guerra and Suzy Dias - From the popular translator for Heavy Metal and NBM comes a period Japanese style anime-fantasy vs. Sci-fi villains epic. Awesome, awesome stuff.
KID HOUDINI AND THE SILVER DOLLAR MISFITS by Dwight MacPherson and Worth Gowell - In the spirit of The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, the Mystery Adventure Serial for young readers is BACK!!!
THE CHAIR OGN by Peter Simeti and Kevin Christensen. Dark psychological horror from Alterna Comics! (click on each image for a larger, readable view, except the cover, which will take you to the company website)
Rick Worley's first comic ever is coming to APE Con in Dan Fran this Nov 1st - 2nd. Funniest little comic ever, no joke!
Who I'd like to meet: People, I guess. No dogs. Not one. Keep them away or I'll break their fool necks. I'd say I want to meet other writers, and I do, but I'm terrified I won't like them.

Hey Dave Baxter, hope you're having a great day! Say, do you believe in God? If so, do you think it comes with a tangible science we can hope to understand one day, or should it remain a mystical concept?
Hey, man! Dunno if you still check your BF e-mail but you've got some hanging around from me...
You know, because we're finally coming out...
