Dischord Records was created in 1980 to document the music coming out of the Washington, D.C. punk community. The label has put out the work of over 40 bands, and has distributed hundreds of other releases connected to the D.C. area. We will continue our work as long as this community continues to create music that speaks to us. Thanks.
There is absolutely 100% no doubt that the best band ever to grace Dischord (or, any label for that matter) was/is MINOR THREAT!!! I am 34 and still remember the 1st time I was blessed with this sound over 20+ years ago. I still get the same chills today!! Thanks guys...you were/are pioneers and DID change the world whether you intended to or not. Oh, and but the way, I was never straight edge but hardcore and true I remain today. XXX Thanks again!
Thanks so much for adding me as a friend. During the mid to late 80's Dischord had a HUGE impact on me. Bands like Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Embrace & Fugazi got me through high school. The label and the bands on it showed me that you can make a difference, you don't have to follow. They opened my eyes to the positive impact music can have.
i love dischord-records philosophy and all of its members, mannnn don`t know were to start, guess everyone`s my view, please really keep the faith, lop
Thank you for condiering me a good choice for a friend. I would like to share with the world not one, but TWO different stories concerning Dischord records and their connection to me (I am so giving).
1: I saw the Evens play in Belfast last May, and after the gig had a chat with Ian Mackaye. During the course of this chat, I, and a friend, managed to get our photograph taken with Mr Mackaye wearing a hat that has travelled throughout the world (it was originally supposed to be on top of a mountain in Spain, but due to an unforseen set of circumstances, it ended up on Ian's head).
2. I have the entire Dischord box set on my phone, and decided to wake my girlfriend up on Sunday morning but placing it on top of her head and playing Gray Matter.
I'm not going to say anything about how I grew up on the DCHC scene and Dischord records and how the DC scene had the best underground music ever, etc..
Dischord is funky. I consider you guy's my main competition. No really Dischord is a true inspiration to me and punk to all of rock. The original Bad ass independent label. Best wishes for 2006. Cheers, Dana of Testiular Manslaughter !!!
first taste of freedom, 1990, a covered parking lot mid december in northern indiana, some friends, a skateboard and punk rock... first tattoos.. dag nasty, can i say. in my heart in my head... thank you.
