   About Dischord

This is an unofficial Dischord page: please do not contact this profile for any information from the label or the people who work at the lable. This is for fans of dischord only.

Dischord Records was created in 1980 to document the music coming out of the Washington, D.C. punk community. The label has put out the work of over 40 bands, and has distributed hundreds of other releases connected to the D.C. area. We will continue our work as long as this community continues to create music that speaks to us. Thanks.

There is absolutely 100% no doubt that the best band ever to grace Dischord (or, any label for that matter) was/is MINOR THREAT!!! I am 34 and still remember the 1st time I was blessed with this sound over 20+ years ago. I still get the same chills today!! Thanks guys...you were/are pioneers and DID change the world whether you intended to or not. Oh, and but the way, I was never straight edge but hardcore and true I remain today. XXX Thanks again!

Thanks so much for adding me as a friend. During the mid to late 80's Dischord had a HUGE impact on me. Bands like Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Embrace & Fugazi got me through high school. The label and the bands on it showed me that you can make a difference, you don't have to follow. They opened my eyes to the positive impact music can have.

Thanks

Thank you for condiering me a good choice for a friend. I would like to share with the world not one, but TWO different stories concerning Dischord records and their connection to me (I am so giving).

1: I saw the Evens play in Belfast last May, and after the gig had a chat with Ian Mackaye. During the course of this chat, I, and a friend, managed to get our photograph taken with Mr Mackaye wearing a hat that has travelled throughout the world (it was originally supposed to be on top of a mountain in Spain, but due to an unforseen set of circumstances, it ended up on Ian's head).

2. I have the entire Dischord box set on my phone, and decided to wake my girlfriend up on Sunday morning but placing it on top of her head and playing Gray Matter.

So there you go.

I'm not going to say anything about how I grew up on the DCHC scene and Dischord records and how the DC scene had the best underground music ever, etc..

What I will say is, Thank you.

There should be more labels like this one. Especially in Los Angeles, where everyone is trying their damndest to sell out.

Hot Body Gram saved my life and changed the way I felt about music. Truely Soul Side kept me a float enough to play music. Thanks for putting it out!

Thank you for keeping my youth free of SoCal, low calorie punk. Without you, I might've started listening to Lagwagon.

Also, if Fugazi could find it in their hearts to follow-up the best CD they ever made (in my humble opinion), we'd also appreciate that.

I bought all the early seven inches when they came out, through the mail. They were the soundtrack to my youth, what a groundbreaking group of bands.
