About Deep Records // Deep Focus

Ever since the first release of Deep Records, it's all been about music, nothing more and nothing less. When I was a kid, my dad had this amazing record collection, vinyl ofcourse. TV was still "grey", a phrase my daughter Jip came up with as she had never seen this before. It was also a time without internet, without sharing and MTV wasn't around yet. Music was not distracted by image, nor heavy marketingcampagnes like today as media was expensive and nothing like today.

I grew up with jazz, Classical, Folk, Country and western, Big Band, Sinatra but also Santana, Van Halen, Paul Simon and Abba. Every day of my early life there was something new to my ears and maybe that's where I got addicted to new sounds. At the age of 17 I started singing in a Rock a Billy band and life was great. From then on I rediscovered the many styles of music that history have brought us, even today I can't make up my mind what I like most, for me it's all about emotion being captured by the artist. If it touches the heart then it's mission completed, as simple as that. Petter, the young genius from Sweden wrote his " These Days" in just a few hours, with no musical background... I've always been intriged by young artist, so many beautifull thoughts are being captured by their passion and excitment, often with an innocent approach that is often responsible for taking the side roads of their minds.

Over the last 7 years I've been involved in setting up many new labels, had over 20 debuts of artists that have become household names in dance and have put out over 100 releases on labels such as Deep, Focus, DK, DK house, Extrema and now Groovecollection Records. An exciting time but also a difficult time. starting out in 1999 was not the best of all times, 9/11 was almost around the corner and internet was showing it's face, vinyl sales where only getting less and technology was providing new ways of communication and production.

For me it wasn't important, i just wanted to push new artists, new sounds and fresh music which I have done over the years. I've met great people, many of them being part of my everyday life because of Deep and I want to thank them all for the joy they brought me. Now it's up to the next 7 years with the knowledge of the last 7, it can only become better as it seems that the whole music industry is gaining back confidence in the future. Meanwhile welcome to Myspace!
