Therefore the sage(saint) knows (understands;names;arrive) everything without going about (traveling), Sees everything without looking (searches his heart and see)(2) and accomplishes everything without doing(wu-wei)(3) Notes: (1)the same sentence in other translations: “For the more you leave, the less you learn” (Bynner); “The more knowledge you seek, the less you will understand” (Byrn), “The farther one pursues knowledge, the less one knows” (LinYutan); (2) The sage understands without having to go through the whole process. She is famous without showing herself. Is perfected without striving (Muller); “The Sage gets there without having taken a step to reach it. He knows before having seen, through superior principles. 56. The one who is conscious (in Tao) can’t speak.

The one who can speak is not conscious (centered in Tao)(1)
Close the mouth (silence your mind);

Shut the doors (close your your senses;controls the Gates of his Breath)

Smooth the sharpness( blunts his activity);

Untie the tangles (untangle your affairs;release your worries).

Harmonize your inner light (dim the glare; tempers his light);

Let settle your dust (calm the turmoil;unite the world into one whole).

Doing this is to enter the mystical oneness(with Tao)(2)

Yes such(a human being ) realizing mystical oneness (the saint;the wise)

holds balance beyond sway of love or hate (3)

He is immune to gain or loss [he can not be benefited nor harmed]

He can not be made noble nor to suffer disgrace [beyond care of praise(honor ;nobility) or blame (disgrace,shame; meanness)].

Therefore he is considered the most valuable human being under Heaven. [the treasure of the World].(4)

Notes:

(1) “He who knows does not speak. He who speaks does not know” is a false translation repeated endlessly.

Konstantin Stanislavsky(1863-1938) in his book ( “An Actor Prepares”),about” The Professional Training system of an Actor” has illustrated the impossibility of talking or remembering.He asked an actor to raise smth. very heavy. The actor whose body was fully tense and concentrated on this task was unable to speak or to remember simple things he executed before. Stanislavski's theories on relaxation,body-mind unity and consciousness speaks about a man with a high degree of self knowledge(“that to concentrate one must first know how to relax”) Anyone in a mystic trance can’t speak without losing his attention,his fragile grasp or resonant connection with the subtle reality.Mystical trance requires an impartial conscious witness inside the traveller. This impartial consciousness that witnesses the journey to the Center is trained in taoism and yoga using the practice of silence(mouna).In hypnotic and shamanic trance the same thing is realized by two persons:one in trance and the other is the conscious witness outside,the guider,the hypnotherapist or the shaman.

(2) Mystical unity:the profound identification,the dark and mysterious identity,mysterious samenes,absolute equality).

(3) The saint remains detached and not moved or insulted either by affection or aversion; approached or alienated.

(4)Legge:”Such an one cannot be treated familiarly or distantly; he is beyond all consideration of profit or injury; of nobility or
meanness:he is the noblest man under heaven”.

Chan:”Therefore it is impossible either to be intimate and close to him or to be distant and indifferent to him. It is impossible either to benefit him or to harm him. It is impossible either to honour him or disgrace him. For this reason he is honoured by the world”.

Crowley:”He cannot be insulted either by familiarity or aversion; he is immune to ideas of gain or loss, of honour or disgrace; he is the true man, unequaled under Heaven”.

LinYutan:”Then love and hatred cannot touch him. Profit and loss cannot reach him. Honor and disgrace cannot affect him. Therefore is he always the honored one of the world”.

Wieger:”No one can attach himself (by doing favours) to such a man, nor repulse him (by treating him badly). He is indifferent to gain or loss, exaltation or humiliation. Being thus, he is the most noble in the world”.

Wu:”Which you cannot court after nor shun, Benefit nor harm, honour nor humble. Therefore, it is the Highest of the world”.

It flows to the lowest places that all despise; This is why it resembles so close to the Way (Tao). (From its example, those who follows Tao) in dwelling they love to live close to the ground . In meditation they love to go deep in the heart.. In dealing with others ,they love humanity. In their words, they love sincerity. In ruling, they love peace based on rectifying the false value order. In business, they love competence. In their actions, they love to choose the right moment... So if you love to abide in your place(completely present; content to be simply yourself, don't compare or compete ) you do not strive with others.If you compete with no one, no one can compete with you. You will be free from blame.

TAO-CALEA CATRE REALITATEA PROFUNDA
TAO -The Absolute Reality Tao=Brahman= Ultimate reality/nature is the underlying essence within all things.The central aim of Eastern mysticism is to experience all the phenomena in the world as manifestations of the same ultimate reality. This reality is seen as the essence of the universe, underlying and unifying the multitude of things and events we observe. The Hindus call it Brahman, The Buddhists Dharmakaya (The Body of Being) or Tathata (Suchness) and the Taoists Tao; each affirming that it transcends our intellectual concepts and defies further explanation. This ultimate essence, however, cannot be separated from its multiple manifestations. It is central to the very nature to manifest itself in myriad forms which come into being and disintegrate, transforming themselves into one another without end. (Fritjof Capra, The Tao of Physics, p210)
TAO -The Absolute Reality
The most important characteristic of the Eastern world view - one could almost say the essence of it- is the awareness of the unity and mutual interrelation of all things and events, the experience of all phenomena in the world as manifestations of a basic oneness. All things are seen as interdependent and inseparable parts of this cosmic whole; as different manifestations of the same ultimate reality. (Capra, The Tao of Physics, 1975) The ‘this’ is also ‘that’. The ‘that’ is also ‘this’… That the that and the this cease to be opposites is the very essence of the Tao. Only this essence, an axis as it were, is the center of the circle responding to endless changes. (Quoted in Fung Yu-Ling, A Short History of Chinese Philosophy, 1958 p.112) (Capra, The Tao of Physics, 1975) A reality Beyond Language The opening line of the Tao Te Ching: ‘The Tao that can be expressed is not the eternal Tao.' (Lao Tzu, The Tao of Physics, p37) Well known Zen phrase: “The instant you speak about a thing you miss the mark.” (Capra, The Tao of Physics, p42) The problems of language here are really serious. We wish to speak in some way about the structure of the atoms … But we cannot speak about atoms in ordinary language. (Heisenberg, The Tao of Physics, p53) That every word or concept, clear as it may seem to be, has only a limited range of applicability. (Heisenberg, The Tao of Physics, p35) The most difficult problem … concerning the use of the language arises in quantum theory. Here we have at first no simple guide for correlating the mathematical symbols with concepts of ordinary language: and the only thing we know from the start is the fact that our common concepts cannot be applied to the structure of the atoms. (Heisenberg, The Tao of Physics, p54) In Indian philosophy, the main terms used by Hindus and Buddhists have dynamic connotations. The word Brahman is derived from the Sanskrit root brih – to grow- and thus suggests a reality which is dynamic and alive. The Upanishads refer to Brahman as ‘this unformed, immortal, moving’, thus associating it with motion even though it transcends all forms.’ The Rig Veda uses another term to express the dynamic character of the universe, the term Rita. This word comes from the root ri- to move. In its phenomenal aspect, the cosmic One is thus intrinsically dynamic, and the apprehension of its dynamic nature is basic to all schools of Eastern mysticism. They all emphasize that the universe has to be grasped dynamically, as it moves, vibrates and dances. (Fritjof Capra, 1975) The Eastern mystics see the universe as an inseparable web, whose interconnections are dynamic and not static. The cosmic web is alive; it moves and grows and changes continually. Modern physics, too, has come to conceive of the universe as such a web of relations and, like Eastern mysticism, has recognised that this web is intrinsically dynamic. The dynamic aspect of matter arises in quantum theory as a consequence of the wave-nature of subatomic particles, and is even more essential in relativity theory, where the unification of space and time implies that the being of matter cannot be separated from its activity. The properties of subatomic particles can therefore only be understood in a dynamic context; in terms of movement, interaction and transformation. (Fritjof Capra, The Tao of Physics) All things come out of the one, and the one out of all things. (Heraclitus, ~500BC) Though One, Brahman is the cause of the many. Brahman is the unborn in whom all existing things abide. The One manifests as the many, the formless putting on forms. (Rig Veda ~ 1200 B.C.)
