I am a harper and storyteller of the Irish tradition. I am fascinated with the traditional harp music of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. So I play whatever I feel like playing, generally without the assistance of the demon set list! I like to throw in a bit of historical background, folklore or some weird story between the tunes, because I think it's important to know the story of the music as well as the music itself.
From the moment I first touched an Irish harp in a South Austin pawn shop 15 years ago, I knew that this is what I am here to do.
In this 21st century, I think of myself as a link in a chain of musical and cultural tradition that goes back a thousand years or more.
To that end, I am also available to teach, for those interested in learning for themselves the beauty of Irish harp music.
About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
Dear Thomas, Lovely playing. I always had a weakness for 'All Through the Night', such a charming tune. Thanks very much for getting in touch. Slán agus beannacht, Brenda
Anything that gives you that rock-star feeling has to be appreciated! ACF is definitely the highlight of my year. The only thing I don't like about it is two days isn't enough time to see everything! There is so much to do, and so many wonderful musicians; I'm constantly running back and forth across the grounds! It is good exercise though. :-)
It's a shame you can't tell the stories at Mother's. The stories really make the songs come alive, and you tell them so well!
I noticed you played at St. Andrews Presbyterian in Marble Falls recently.. I hate I missed that - I'm actually a member of that church (though I rarely attend). Hopefully you can come back sometime!
Just dropping by to see how my favourite harpist is doing! Was great seeing you at ACF. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to Mother's one of these days.
Thank you for the friend request! I think it's wonderful that you tell the stories of your tunes. I agree with you, that it's important to know what's behind the tune. Even if we don't tell the story, I believe it still comes out through our playing. ~Cynthia Cathcart
Doc, Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your space. I do love your music. I am only just beginning harp lessons myself. Wish me luck. :) Thank you for sharing your friendship and talent. Much love, Lacey
