A scholarly vocalist and keen student of the guitar, the first records of his artistry date from the mid to late 20th century, emerging from the small settlement of Subiaco in the western reaches of terra australis; yet, judged by his written and artistic works, Jones seems hardly to belong to any identifiable period. .. .. Take the Orchestre Luxure, or Lechery Orchestra, a work of his later maturity: Into it he has poured, with images fantastic and diabolic, the whole of his imaginative power. It takes the form of a tryptych; the left grouping of piano accordéon and contrabass is a Paradise, the right of clarinette and flûte a Hell, while in the centre he shows us in symbolic forms the dreams, follies, and disorders of the life of the senses. .. .. It is, of course, possible to accept such a work unquestioningly, as one accepts the world of dreams, without asking what each detail "means". However it is commonplace for the devil to have all the best tunes, and sermonizers are apt to find a richer field for inventive eloquence in evil than in good.
