"just enough rock aggression and rhythmic raucousness to appeal to this generally jazz-averse rockist...explore[s] the intersection of jazz, funk, rock ,and experimental music at their most extreme. The band is following in heavy footsteps in this endeavor--the Vandermark 5, George Clinton, Miles Davis and the Stooges of "Funhouse" have all aspired to the same--but it more than holds its own on "Resistor," the group's extremely impressive second album..."

"Doppler Shift struts 'n' slams heavy funk...the sax-trumpet combination cry madly alluring melodies...'Physics' is one hell of a romp, the aural equivalent of a triple cappucino on ice on an 85 degree day."

Formed in May of 2004, Doppler Shift is an experimental jazz-funk-rock band comprised of drums, bass, tenor saxophone, and trumpet. Inspired by groups such as the John Zorn Masada Quartet and the Gerry Mulligan Quartet, and fueled by James Brown, Ornette Coleman, Helmet, Medeski Martin and Wood, Doppler Shift has no chording instruments by choice, giving the listener a transparent groove to move your ass to. Jazz sure as shit ain't dead - it's just been waiting. Besides - hasn't everything with guitars already been done?
Since putting together their first album masterpiece, "Physics" (October 2005), Doppler Shift has been receiving critical acclaim. Listen to a sample of some of the many tracks off our 1st release, "Physics" and make sure to purchase a copy, which can be made through messaging Doppler Shift here on myspace or directly through CDBaby
With junglebop/freespazz drummer Dave Marsalek of SPIZM / Trioizm & The Chicago Junglebop Syndicate onboard, who knows what sonic limits this modern experimental funkjazz quartet will conquer? Doppler's also fully integrated trumpeter Brian Niebuhr's implementation of an electric pickup & effects. The horn not only goes to 11 but through the roof!
Doppler Shift is now in support of its highly acclaimed 2nd full length release RESISTOR, which was officially released June '08 on Chicago's IZM RECORDS [the home of JUNGLEBOP & FREESPAZZ]. Area shows & regional touring Winter-Spring '09. Keep posted!
RESISTOR is available for purchase directly thru myspace.com, iTUNES , CD BABY & everywhere for online download
