About Dr. Something & the Poppin' Fresh Love Engines
Dr. Something & the Poppin' Fresh Love Engines are a band from the post-electric future, where powered-down acoustic music, by necessity, has regained its prominence in popular culture. However, they are also a retro band of their time, heavily influenced by popular and art music of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, and drawing thematic and lyrical content from the halcyon culture of the EHFFC (Era of Heigh Fossil Fuel Consumption). This was an era wherein a number of societies (primarily Western) attained a surprising level of wealth and egalitarianism through the exploitation of finite natural resources. While this simultaneously caused vast damage to the Earth's eco system, it also yielded social and technological marvels, such as Industrial Capitalism, Communism, Socialism, the rise of the middle class, railroads, automobiles, flying machines and more. In many places, slavery was abolished in favor of wage slavery. Revolts, political upheaval and/or protective legislation in some areas (but offset by explotation of populations and resources in other parts of the world) led to greater rights, wealth and leisure for the working class, leading to an era that has come to be widely romanticized by the decimated populace of the future. Like many future balladeers, Dr. Something & the Poppin' Fresh Love Engines wax rhapsodic about robots and their hubraic creators and also plead to technological progress to heal the wounds of humanity, reflecting a fantastic desire to experience the strange, maximalist features of a long-gone and unsustainable world order.
