dunnEASY brings a fresh new sound to the sacred tradition that is House. A collaboration between Tortured Soul’s Ethan White and 3 Degrees Global’s DJ Ed Dunn, they combine deep house rhythms with gospel driven vocals, African and Latin percussion, and New York’s hard hitting jazz soloists.
The seeds were planted in 2005, in New York City’s R&B and world music venue, SOB's. Tortured Soul had just finished a set sharing the stage with Amp Fiddler when the two met. “It was his sense of sincerity and his positive energy, I knew I should work with this man,” says White of the meeting, “I was ready to jump into something just from the vibe he put out.”
As the keyboardist from Brooklyn’s live soulful house pioneers Tortured Soul, Ethan White has seen his band collaborate in the studio with many of house music’s biggest names: Osunlade, Alix Alvarez, DJ Spinna, Jon Cutler. As an extensive world touring act, they’ve played around 500 concerts, touching every continent (sans Antarctica) at festivals like The Montreal Jazz Festival, Bonnaroo, The Southport Weekender, The Cape Town International Jazz Festival, and club nights such as NYC’s Shelter, LA’s Deep, Singapore’s Zouk, London’s Fabric, and many others. They have shared bills with a long list of performers, from live acts like Chaka Khan, The Brazilian Girls, The Brand New Heavies, The Pharcyde, to a who’s who list of deep house DJs. Ethan White’s debut solo single featuring Lisa Shaw, “Find The Way,” releases this fall on Large Records with remixes from Richard Earnshaw and Jask. He also won the prestigious West End Records remix contest with his mix of Larry Levan’s classic production, “Let’s Go Dancing.”
DJ Ed Dunn brings the tradition of New York’s soulful house scene to the duo’s collaborations. Raised on the sites and sounds of New York City, this Queens native credits his musical education to the soulful sounds of such notables as Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Teddy Pendegrass and, of course, the elements of life: “Earth Wind and Fire.” As a partner of the international deep house crew, 3 Degrees Global, Ed Dunn has played along side some of the most influential house DJs of our time: Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler, John "Jellybean" Benetiz", DJ Sneak and Marques Wyatt. Ed Dunn has played at clubs all across the country from NYC's infamous Studio 54 & China Club to Club Five (D.C), Smart Bar (Chicago) and Club Pink (S.F.). Ed Dunn’s musical influences stretch beyond the house scene, his love for music as afforded him the opportunity to play for such notables as Alicia Keys and Jill Scott.
dunnEASY’s productions combine Ed Dunn and Ethan White’s individual skills into a fresh and funky new take on Deep House. Bouncing ideas and sounds off each other in White’s smokey Brooklyn studio, tracks evolve into a blend that can at times drive the dance floor with heavy percussion and funky basslines, and at other times explode with dynamics, taking the party to another level. Fall 2007 sees dunnEASY’s debut releases, including 2 mixes of DJ Yass’s “I Go Deep” on Kerri Chandler’s label Grei Matter, and their debut original track entitled “Ready To Love” on Jellybean Soul. The single features vocalist Tricia Angus from DJ Spinna’s “Living My Life,” and flutist Jay Rodriguez from the Grammy nominated band Groove Collective. In Kerri Chandler words, “It is everything I love about house in one song.”
