Elephant vs Leopard was formed during a particularly horrible
summer in 2006 in the back room of a shed on a farm near
Peterborough by Sam Warren (bass) and Mike Freedman
(drums). The intention was to strip away the artifice and self-
conscious musicianship of previous projects, focusing instead on
simply playing as honestly and loudly as possible. Spike
(vocals) joined the band at the end of 2007 and the three-piece
began putting the finishing touches to their debut release,
Safariland. The album was recorded by "The" Hugh Fielding over the course of three
days at The Hatch in Worcestershire, a remote studio with no
phone reception or flushing toilets.
The album was mastered by Alan Douches (rhymes with couches),
also responsible for albums by Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan and
Dysrhythmia. The cover features exclusive artwork by
Rugman, the renowned London street artist.
SAFARILAND has been reviewed by: ROCK SOUND - 8/10 ORGAN - "Beautifully violent and confrontational...an excellent debut album." ROCK MIDGETS.COM - "Irresistible chunks of strutting aggression."
In case you read this tomorrow and have no recollection of what happened the night before, I would just like to reiterate what an amazing performance the three of you gave tonight. It was, truly, in a league beyond what most bands are (or would dare be) capable of. But that's not the point. I think you exceeded yourselves. It's a shame there's to be no more...but let's see where the adventure goes next. It was a hell of a swansong.
By the way, I've just noticed you're top mates with 'my' old band Giddy Motors. Gaverick from GM and I are in a new band, Poino. Be our top mate too.
....It’s really appreciated, fuck knows we can do with some friends in this back stabbing dog eat dog bizness…

No news over here. Just mooshing though the seasonal disaffective disordeliness of it all. Realizing that it was half a year ago I was over there, and not like two weeks ago, which seems wrong.
I watch your video every once in a while and think back to nauseating car rides with fondness.
All change in Gronk’s Lo-Fi Larder! 4 new tracks and 2 oldies, all themed around the winter weather that cradles this little island like a hot water bottle gone cold … Put your feet up with a glass of mulled whine and sample the latest batch of home-made aural marmalade from my Lo-Fi Larder … Come on in, you’ll catch your death …

ELEPHANT vs LEOPARD – Safariland (Genin) – A sonic rumble of a band, in your face, on your toes. ...if Rollins was to be some shifty character from the wastelands of Southern England and his band recorded their choppy punk rock out in the back cow shed of some farm they broke in to that is. Beautifully violent and confrontational, a dense rolling bone-shaking sound, chopping and changing in that awkward way that fluid bands of a No Means No, Monkey Boy, Muy Feo nature do ... Punching you in the throat, dropping your jaw, tell me more, chlamydia in the post? And the fires of hell as a summer’s retreat? Say my name he screams. Faith? No more, and bleeding down your chin, one more straw? This is good, no camel’s back breaking here, you won’t have seen this coming, you never do see it. One more straw, this is very good. ...this is an excellent debut album. We are alive, look me right in the eye, all the kings horses and all the kings men, run for the hills, we’re going nowhere, they are alive. Yes.
