Elfonso is also a band I have great respect for and consider one of the most original, fun, and all around great bands around today in any genre. - Gamemusic4ALL
Do you think gamers need or even want their own music? Sure we have nerdcore as popularised by MC Frontalot and his friends at Penny Arcade but what about other genre's like rock or pop? I'd like to bring to your attention a band almost gauranteed to have flown under your radar. That band is Elfonso.
Elfonso are a "video game folk pop" duo made up of two cousins, Alex "ELX" Willmore and Rory Muldoon. Their music takes inspiration from not just individual games but also gaming culture, life and love. The two have been best friends from a young age and it shows. Perhaps the greatest and most charming thing about the duo is that they're completely true to themselves, never afraid to write songs about obscure old Sega Saturn Games or bizzare outdated game creation software that only a handful of hardcore community members could appreciate.
No song exemplifies this better than"Trail of Ribbon", an ode to Saturn classic Nights Into Dreams. While nearly every other gamer band I've heard will quote the game name or character name during the chorus for instance, Elfonso will write from the perspective of the main character- "Flying through the sky with a trail of ribbon behind, with not a care inside my mind, and I don't want this night to end" To anyone that enjoyed Nights Into Dreams these words should hit home. In a fan favourite song called "Master Quest" Elfonso manage to evoke all the nostalgic feelings of playing Ocarina of Time, not only this but they even succeed in injecting just the right ammount of humour into the sincere track with the line "My best friend's a ball of light, she's got my back when we get into a fight, but she can't comfort me, a boy who never went through puberty". The lyrics are genuine and honest and completely charming in every way. Certainly the vocals are an acquired taste, nobody would argue that the pair are born singers but quite frankly if you stop listening because of this you're missing the point entirely.
Elfonso are a rare treat, a pair of humble minstrels with an acoustic guitar, a violin or two and a genuine love for the greatest entertainment medium in the world. The output of their efforts is a rough gem sure but a gleaming bright chaos emerald of a gem nonetheless. I defy you to find another band that will write a love song from the point of view of a fictional MMORPG character. If you do find such a band, let me know. - Indoor Heroes
In a really odd way, I like this split EP. Released on Daventry label Jaws II Records, Elfonso and The Skull Kid are two separate acts. Both play lo-fi acoustic pop, not too dissimilar to very early Tanaou material. Starting off with Elfonso, which is two young chaps called Alex and Rory who recorded these six tracks in their own home studio. There's a very DIY feel to what they've done and the imperfections actually make this sound pretty good. The quirky 'Trail of Ribbon' and 'Grouchio' are really nice songs. I think what makes this band so damn fun is that neither of the pair are great singers, yet they manage to use their limitations well, creating quirky and interesting songs rather than going off at a tangent and losing their audience through bad vocals. - Punktastic.com
Up first, Elfonso played a laid back acoustic set. A diminished line-up due to other commitments, they nonetheless delivered the goods. Stand out song 'Master Quest' takes themes of growing up/adolescence and applies them to nintendo classic 'Zelda', backed simply yet effectively live with 2 acoustic guitars and a tambourine.
Coming across as Dylan-esque folk for a post modernist age, Elfonso can easily look to carve out a niche in any scene they please. - the coolest kids in town

Hey elfonso, hope you're having a great day! Say, do you believe in God? If so, do you think it comes with a tangible science we can hope to understand one day, or should it remain a mystical concept?
