   About Musk Ox

Band Info

Musk Ox is (thus far) a one-man project focused on combining lush acoustics with expansive arrangements, and delicate textures. It is a forlorn journey through natural realms where darkness and light, substance and void, sorrow and joy exist as a single entity.

Bio

Musk Ox was born 3 years ago out of a combined love for nature’s commanding beauty, and the capitvating resonance and emotional depth of the nylon string guitar. After self-recording two demos, Entre La Terre et le Ciel (2006) and Entre Les Nuages et La Neige (2007) the time was right to enter The Gallery Studios to record the self-titled debut full-length, an album which hopes to convey the beauty of Canada’s vast, magnificent landscapes.

Press

"Every listen I'm reminded of just how lush the passages are, how soaring the harmonies are and just how delicate artistic expression can be—yet convey so much"

- Adrian Bromley, UNRESTRAINED!

"...truly beautiful and completely relaxing...the soothing resonance and emotional depth wafts over the listener like a light summer breeze."

- Aaron Small, Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles

"Unique and enchanting music that utterly captivates in its disguised simplicity...Languid, beautiful and charming, this is definitely a Canadian talent to remember"

- Exclaim!

"From beginning to end, this is one of the most beautiful albums I have ever heard...Fans of Tenhi, Nest, Agalloch’s acoustic tracks, October Falls, and Empyrium take note: Musk Ox is the future of this genre"

- Lunar Hypnosis

"This is music to be swept away by, music that should close your eyes and lead your fantasies into the magical woods...I love this album, it’s one of the strongest experiences in a long time and many people will certainly mention MUSK OX as one of the leading projects in this genre in the future."

- The Shadows Commence

"The overall feeling is quite unique, although most of these elements are already used by many groups within the same scene, it still stood out as something fresh, melancholic, natural and different"

- October Falls

"This is a work of beauty from beginning to end"

- Heathen Harvest

“The young musician behind this act demonstrates a huge potential and with this release he's nothing but putting the cards on the table and paving the way for a luring course for Musk Ox”

- Tartarean Desire

"He produces an almost medieval form of instrumental folk music that defies easy categorising"

-Wonderful Wooden Reasons

“… it is a fine piece of sad mood music … a pleasant and promising demo”

- Evening of Light

You bet I will!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't miss it! Other good stuff as well, but that's a highlight for me! Sonic Youth as well.... Lots of great Norwegian bands....

I'm in town. It doesn't seem like it because I'm now camped out in the new co-op office (I stay overnight a lot for security reasons).

Arthur arrives on Wednesday night. Rehearsal at mine on Thursday?

Looking forward to seeing you!

PS- Id love to do a little rootsy thing over your version of justice, not the full poem, maybe a new poem with the same refrain.

Hello Nathanael! Are you doing well? I am. :)
The demo review is up now, it was a bit hard to write it and maybe it's more like a repeat of the album review, I don't know really, find it out! In case you've forgotten the address, it is theshadowscommence. 99k. org - still working on getting the .com to work. :( And oh, right now my site might be rather slow due to a server glitch. Anyway, the review is up there. Take care until we "meet" again! Cheers from a windy Sweden.
