Over the past decade, New York City's Emskee has become a legedary force on the global underground hip hop/party scene. Emskee's virtuoso rhyming skills, lyrical genius, and turntable wizardry have taken him all over the world from Moscow to Manchester to Maracaibo, Venezuela and Toronto, Canada. He released two critically acclaimed cd's in Japan with his good friend The Saint in a duo group called The Good People, and a handful of songs through Mad Flava (Germany) and Leisure Recordings (UK) and other european project guest appearances. Now Emskee is back in New York, , awaiting the release of his newly recorded solo debut album, "Hardly Seen, Rarely Heard", due out in Japan on Goon Trax/Media Factory Records in january 2009. At a time when quality hip hop sales are flagging, and even the most successful acts of the past are resorting to formulaic fodder, Emskee is indeed a rarity. He has the potency of a young 50 Cent, the credibility of a freshman Kanye, the lyrical flow of KRS ONE, and the listenability of early LL Cool J, but his original sound is 100% Emskee. The new record is packed with 20 tracks: an infectious dance floor anthem, and radio friendly grooves that are sure to elevate Emskee fromm the underground to the mainstream while maintaining his hard-won street cred. One listen and you will know. Emskee is the future of hip hop and the future is now.
On his soon-to-be-classic new album, Emskee goes for the jugular and puts his own unique stamp on life in high-rent and high-stakes New York City. He kicks off with a solid, genuine production called "From The Heart", which calls for more artists to realize the trappings of the record business and to truly represent their themselves in their artistry if craving a career of longevity.
He conjures up the soul of early Public Enemy and boldly addresses African-Americans' national identity in the searing "The N-Word" song. He hits on relationships and modern love in "Trust World" and "A Few Minutes To 9 Months". He blasts back at corny nightclubs filled with Hollywood wannabe's in "Why's It Gotta Be Like That". He makes a case for mutual respect in the infectious "Ridiculous Choices" which is reminiscent of classic Eminem. Emskee's personal manifesto, "Respect The Dj", has the eclectic funkiness of Outkast, and never fails to pack the dance floor when Emskee spins it at his weekly saturday night club residency in brooklyn.
Emskee made his name as one of the resident dj's on New York longest running hip hop show to date, J Smooth's "Underground Railroad" on WBAI 99.5fm, which helped break the careers of such artists as Wu Tang Clan, Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, and more. His iconoclastic hip hop mixes can currently be heard on his "Controlled Substance" show on brooklynradio.net. Emskee is also the headlining dj for the annual WBAI radio specials called "The Hip Hop Takeover" (www.myspace.com/thehiphoptakeover), and also the host of the classic and obscure dance music series "The Rare Radio Show.
As mentioned earlier, he has a weekly residency called "Make Love,Not War" at the legendary underground club Black Betty in williamsburgh, brooklyn, where he spins an eclectic mix of hip hop, disco, funk, soul, along with plenty of original Good People and Emskee songs. Emskee has spun at every credible club venue in New York City, and his events have been written about in XXL, The New York Observer, The Village Voice, Time Out New York, New York Magazine, and the Daily News. Emskee got his start in the music industry when he was a teenager and his homemade demo cd's found their way to the airwaves in the hands of New York City's most iconic golden age dj's such as Red Alert, Kid Capri, Funkmaster Flex, and Stretch Armstrong/Bobbito Garcia. This early radio play not only solidified Emskee as a prodigious voice in underground hip hop, but provided Emskee with the confidence and vigor to become a wreckoned with emcee/dj talent.
