Encounters explores a universe of electronic soundscapes with insisting currents of guitar-oriented rock. Based in Aarhus, Denmark, the electro-rock duo makes lyrical music that takes the listener through panoramic cosmic vistas reminding one of Vangelis classic Bladerunner soundtrack without ever losing momentum or the urge to tell a musical story - a story that fluently yet discreetly incorporates both the musicians pasts in indierock and their understanding of avantgarde electropop. Musically related to bands such as Depeche Mode and New Order as well as the emotive universe of emo/indie-rockers like She Wants Revenge, Encounters insists on a melancholy yet powerful, part electronic, part live, downtempo sound that is distinctly their own, producing compositions that are a balance of instrumental harmonies and beat-oriented structures perfectly fitted for integrating and accentuating their vocal and textual universe. Listening to Encounters is like looking at a beautiful landscape without ever running the risk of having it grow too pastoral or dull because of the ever-present and slightly unnerving presence of darker and more complex notes of meaning and sound.
