Praise for Fiddlehead: In light of the only other notable noise ambassadors of the early 90’s from Georgia – those being Jack O’ Nuts and Dirt – Atlanta’s Fiddlehead hold the proud distinction of being the band to singlehandedly escort the Post-Hardcore scene to everywhere south of Chapel Hill.
DOD E, compiling the bands singles on a 6-song EP, proves to be a thrashing (yet, at times, intricate) unity of the finer moments of northern contemporaries such as Bitch Magnet, Fugazi, and Bastro. The rhythm section, comprised of Mike Haggerty and Kyle Spence, were simultaneously dynamic and rigid, and were without a doubt one of the band’s finest assets. With Bruce Bohannon on guitar, whose performing was as powerful and emotive as the rhythm section, and yelping (almost Rollins-esque) vocals were tackled by Geoey Cook, Fiddlehead gave little doubt of their potential.
Although DOD E is strong, genius of Fiddlehead would only be truly tapped in the second release cryptically entitled "The Deaf Waiter." Recorded by Steve Albini, the EP revealed more hooks – courtesy of Bohannon – and the Haggerty/Spence rhythm continues to reign. Of particular interest is the band’s rendition of Wire’s (vis-a’-vis Soulside) Ex-Lion Tamer. The Deaf Waiter is a snapshot of Fiddlehead in their prime, but lamentably, the band broke up almost immediately after its release. [h2o] 1997

Fiddlehead formed in the early nineties in the putrid muck of the Atlanta music scene at the time. Fiddlehead toured most of the US three times and released two CDs, a 10 vinyl record and several 7 inch records as well as appearing on two various artist releases. There is much folklore about the band. One story can be read in a Chunklet magazine article about how they razzed a bunch of dirty punks who cancelled a show in Milwaukee, WI and did not bother to call to notify the band. Their last record, The Deaf Waiter, was recorded in Chicago by Steve Albini which was a regretable mistake. Its not likely that nautilus thing ever worked out for his scrawny ass because he cant be more than a buck nine. Their first record "Dod e" sounds cleaner in comparison with David Barbe engineering the record and John Golden mastering. After tracking "The Deaf Waiter" in one day with Steve, the tapes were brought down to Barbe to get them remixed. David Barbe said at the time, "You should have just done the record with me." The mastering of that record was done by someone other than John Golden - another big mistake. Fiddlehead appeared with such acts as Green Day, Fugazi, Girls Against Boys, Jawbreaker, Rodan, Unwound, Crain, Phleg Camp, Rain Like The Sound Of Trains, & Quincy Punx to name a few. Their last cd is still available on the internet. Fiddlehead has never been paid for "The Deaf Waiter" cd and 10 inch record sales since its release in 1994. "Dod e" is out of print. The members have gone on to work in several other bands over the years. Harvey Milk, Tom Collins, The Martians, Freemasonry, John Brown...
