Great Boston Globe article about the IPO Boston 2009 music event taking place at Church (in the Fenway area) between Thursday, November 19 and Sunday, November 22. Yes, Fireking is playing the event on Friday, November 20 at 9:30 PM sharp.
Fireking intially started out as a whim, an answer to the question: "What would happen if two old bandmates got together and started churning out tunes?"
Anthony Kaczynski and Smitt E. Smitty were in Figures on a Beach for twelve productive years, but by 1993 when they breathed their last as a band, they felt tired and definitely in need of a musical recharge. So Anthony bought his first guitar, a Gibson ES-135, and from there, he tried to learn how to play it, under the notion that as long as it was something that Dave Davies or Pete Townshend would have played in, say, 1967, it was jake with him.
Pretty soon songs started happening, as they inevitably do. It became obvious that a drummer was needed, preferably one with a big beat, to make the tunes Anthony was writing come to life, and the obvious drummer was Smitt E. Smitty, also formerly of Figures on a Beach, and someone who is possessed with a singular telepathy as far as knowing when to take it to the bridge. They started rehearsing as a two-piece band, and after awhile it was apparent that they had come up with songs and a sound that they really liked. It was time to enter the studio.
They spent much of 1999 and 2000 at New Alliance recording the tracks that would become "Live A Little, Love A Little," and in 2000 they started playing their first live shows as Fireking. After a hiatus, in 2006 they added a third full-time member, the irrepressible Drew Morrison on the Rickenbacker bass guitar.
There's lots of rockin' music being made these days at Fireking HQ. Look for our new album "Double Trouble" by the end of 2009. /p>
