pupa
[pupa] are a 6-piece band formed in the summer of 2007, under the vision of Yukihiro Takahashi to start a new project. The members are:
Yukihiro Takahashi, Tomoyo Harada, Hiroshi Takano, Ren Takada, Hirohisa Horie, and Tomohiko Gondo. The debut album 'floating pupa' is set to be released on July 2nd. The name of the band is inspired by a kind of artificial fly for fly fishing, as Yukihiro has been an ardent fly-fisher.
Following the split of Sadistic Mika band, Yukihiro briefly continued as a member of Sadistics, before finally joining Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto to form Yellow Magic Orchestra (Y.M.O.) in 1978. Their influence was enormous not only on music but also on pop culture and art in general, which extended beyond Japan, and the trio gained international popularity, before the band went into a long "hiatus" in December 1983. Yukihiro's solo career started out in 1978 by releasing the first album 'Saravah!", and he recorded 21albums so far, including the latest, 'BLUE MOON BLUE' out in 2006. While being a solo artist, he also collaborated with Keiichi Suzuki (MOONRIDERS) as THE BEATNIKS. In 2001, he and Haruomi Hosono reunited as a duo called SKETCH SHOW. In addition, Yukihiro has a long career as a fashion designer. In May 2007, he played a children's cancer benefit concert as Human Audio Sponge (HAS), consisting of the two members of SKETCH SHOW plus Ryuich Sakamoto, which led them to play Live Earth as Y.M.O. in July. The trio released a single featuring 'Rydeen 79/07' and a brand-new song, under the name of HASYMO.
1952年6月6日生まれ。サディスティック・ミカ・バンド解散後、サディスティックスを経て、78年、細野晴臣の呼びかけに応じ、坂本龍一とともにイエロー・マジック・オーケストラ （Y.M.O.）を結成。内外の音楽はもちろん、あらゆるアート／カルチャーとリンクして圧倒的な影響を残したが、83年12月をもって「散開」。ソロとしては、78年のアルバム『Saravah！』以来、2006年の『BLUE MOON BLUE』までに通算21枚のオリジナル・アルバムを発表。また、ソロと併行して鈴木慶一（ムーンライダーズ）とのTHE BEATNIKSとしても活動。2001年からは細野晴臣とSKETCH SHOWを結成。音楽家としての顔を持つ一方、ファッション・デザイナーとしても長いキャリアを持つ。07年5月には、小児がんを中心としたさまざまな病気と闘う子どもたちの支援を目的とするコンサートに、SKETCH SHOW＋坂本龍一のユニット、Human Audio Sponge（HAS）で出演。7月にはY.M.O.として地球温暖化防止を訴える世界規模コンサート「Live Earth」に出演。また８月には“HASYMO（ハシモ）”名義での初の書き下ろし楽曲と、「RYDEEN 79/07」を収めたSINGLEをリリース。

Tomoyo Harada
Born: 28 November 1967 in Nagasaki, Japan.
As an actress, Tomoyo's film career took off when she starred in a leading role in 'Toki o Kakeru Shojo' (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) in 1983. She has recently appeared in critically acclaimed films such as 'Sayonara COLOR' and 'Kamiya Etsuko no Seishun'. As a singer, she has released numerous albums since her debut in 1983. Among those are the collaborations with Keiichi Suzuki during the 90s and 00s. Being the first Japanese artist that worked with Tore Johansson, Swedish producer, she toured Japan backed by an all-Swedish band, to coincide with the albums produced by Johansson, cultivating a whole new set of fans. She made a guest appearance on the MOOSE HISS album 'DESERT HOUSE', where she sang two songs. 2007 saw the release of 'music & me", the new album to celebrate her 25th anniversary as a singer.
１９６７年１１月２８日生まれ。長崎市出身。
１９８３年、映画『時をかける少女』で映画主演デビュー。近年は『サヨナラCOLOR』『紙屋悦子の青春』など数々の話題作に出演。
シンガーとしても、デビュー当時からコンスタントにアルバムを発表。90年代以降は鈴木慶一とのコラボレーションによる数々のアルバムを製作。邦楽のミュージシャンとしては初となるスウェーデンのプロデューサー、トーレ・ヨハンソンを迎えてのアルバム製作、それに伴うオール・スウェディシュ・メンバーとの国内ツアーなどで多くの新しいリスナーを獲得。独自の足跡を残してきた。2006年にはMOOSE HILLのアルバム「DESERT HOUSE」に２曲ゲストボーカルとして参加。昨年には、デビュー25周年記念となる、ニューアルバム「music & me」をリリースした。
他にナレーションやＣＭなどの活動も積極的に行っている。

Hiroshi Takano
Born: 14 December 1964 in Shizuoka, Japan.
Since his first solo single 'See You Again' in 1988, produced by Yukihiro Takahashi, Hiroshi has issued 16 singles and 14 albums throughout the years. As a guitarist, he has recorded and performed with numerous bands and musicians (Kazuyoshi Nakamura, Tei Towa, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono & Tokyo Shyness, HAS), and as a producer, he has worked with SUPER BUTTER DOG, Kyoko Koizumi, among others. He has also released albums as a member of NATHALIE WISE and GANGA ZUMBA since 2001. To mark the 20th anniversary of his first solo record, Hiroshi plans to resume a solo career later this year.
1964年12月14日 静岡生まれ B型。
1988年、高橋幸宏プロデュース「See You Again」でソロデビュー。
現在までに16枚のシングルと、ベスト盤を含む14枚のオリジナルアルバムをリリース。
90年代後半からはセッションミュージシャンとしての参加も多数。
ギタリストとして（中村一義、TEI TOWA、坂本龍一、細野晴臣＆東京シャイネス、HASなど）またプロデューサーとして（SUPER BUTTER DOG、小泉今日子など）数多くのプロジェクトを支える。
2001年以降はナタリー・ワイズ、GANGA ZUMBAのメンバーとしても作品を発表。
2008年10月のソロデビュー20周年を期に、再び本格的なソロ活動を再開する予定。

Ren Takada
Born: 1973 as the eldest son of Wataru Takada, one of Japan's legendary folk singers.
Ren was a keen footballer as a boy, before taking up the guitar at the age of 14. After making his recording debut with an album by Kyozo Nishioka, a singer-songwirter and his father's old friend, he has performed/recorded as a steel guitar player as well as a multi-instrumentalist with many artists and bands including Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi, HANAREGUMI, Ann Sally, Miyuki Hatakeyama, Human Audio Sponge. Some of other projects he was involved in were; The 'GOSANKE' series with Takuji Aoyagi and Goro Ito, 'SAKE ROCK ALL STARS' with Sake Rock and ASA-CHANG. He was featured in TV commercials for Pringles GOURMET and YEBIS The Hop in 2007, and the same year saw the release of the new album 'Evening on This Island'.

少年時代はサッカーに熱中し、14歳からギターを始める。
17歳で、父親の旧友でもあるシンガーソングライター・西岡恭三のアルバムでセッション・デビューを果たす。
現在は、スティール・ギターをはじめとするマルチ弦楽器奏者として細野晴臣、高橋幸宏、ハナレグミ、アン・サリー、畠山美由紀、Human Audio Spongeなどのレコーディングやライヴで活躍中。
ソロ・アーティストとしても今までに4枚のアルバムをリリース。
その他、青柳拓次、伊藤ゴローとの共同プロジェクト、通称『御三家』シリーズ、サケロックとASA-CHANGとのユニット『サケロックオールスターズ』等、幅広く活動中。
2007年春〜プリングルズ グルメ、ヱビス<ザ・ホップ>のTVCMに出演する。
同年5月には新作「Evening on this island」をリリース。

Hirohisa Horie
Born: 1970. Keyboard player.
Having played with a variety of musicians from different countries and backgrounds since his ealy twenties, Hirohisa, as a lead singer/songwriter, put his own band NEIL AND IRAIZA together in 1995. Highly respected by many artists, not just as a keyboard player but also as a producer and an arranger, he has recently recorded and performed with LOVE PSYCHEDELICO, Cocco, Kaela Kimura. When Cocco and Shigeru Kishida (KURURI) formed SINGER SONGER in 2005, Hirohisa joined the band and released the 'Barairo POP' album. While helping Duncan Redmonds of SNUFF with his side project BILLY NO MATES along with Ken Yokoyama of Hi-STANDARD, he worked with the reformed Sadistic Mica Band on their new album 'NARKISSOS' in 2006, and played a one-off show at the NHK Hall in the following year. 2007 was a busy year for him, as he participated in the 'SENSUOUS SYNCHRONIZED SHOW' world tour as a member of CONELIUS GROUP.

20代のころから、国内外問わずさまざまなアーティストとのセッションを行い、一方で、自身が曲を書き、歌うNEIL AND IRAIZAを19９5年に結成。キーボーディストとしてだけでなく、プロデューサー、アレンジャーとしてアーティストからの絶大な支持を得ている。最近では、LOVE PSYCHEDELICO、cocco、木村カエラのライブ及び、レコーディングに参加。2005年に、Coccoと岸田繁（くるり）を中心としたSINGER SONGERにバンド・リーダーとして、アルバム「ばらいろポップ」を制作。また、SNUFFのダンカン・レッドモンズのソロ・プロジェクトであるBILLY NO MATESをHi-STANDARDの横山健らと手伝う。2006年には、サディスティック・ミカ・バンドのアルバム「NARKISSOS」に参加。NHKホールにて、一度きりのライヴを行う。2007年は、CORNELIUS GROUPのメンバーとして、「SENSUOUS SYNCHRONIZED SHOW」の世界ツアーに参加中。
Tomohiko Gondo
Born: 11 September 1967 in Tokyo.
Sound producer/composer. After graduating from Nihon University with a B.A. in music, Tomohiko went on to study at the Boston University, from where he received a Master's Degree. Although he is specialized in Performace of Euphonium and Electronic Music, he has mainly worked as a composer and an arranger. As one of the rarest Japanese euphonium players who understand pop music, however, he has been building up his own unique style, and has performed with, among others, the members of Y.M.O. (Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi). Whilst being great at scoring for wind and string ensembles as an arranger, he doesn't hesitate to utilize computers, samplers or synthesizers to create soundscapes with depth, by combining and blending both organic and electronic instrumentations. He is currently leading his own band 'anonymass', in addition to providing production and arrangement work for other bands and artists as well as composing music for various TV ads.

日大芸術学部卒業後、米、ボストン大学院に留学、修士課程修了。ユーフォニウムと電子音楽を学ぶ。基本的に作編曲家。国内では希な"ポップスがわかるユーフォニウム奏者"としての側面はライブでは独特なスタイルを持ちながらも近年ではYMOメンバー(細野晴臣、坂本龍一、高橋幸宏)らと共演。レコーディングにおいても管弦楽のアンサンブルを得意とするアレンジャーで ありながらも、生楽器に拘泥することなくコンピュータ、サンプラー、シンセサイザーを縦横無尽に駆使し、その融合によって生まれる奥行きの深い音像を構築する。CM音楽はじめバンドプロデュース、アレンジなど多数。自身主宰のバンドanonymassも意欲的に活動中である。
