The trio of Fretless Delay was formed on the 23rd April 2009.
There they were, a singer named Drew Crump, a guitarist named Luke Massingham and another guitarist named Chris Sparks, just all sitting around, having some drinks and a bit of a jam.
It wasn't quite rocket science, fate or even an 'out of this world' experience, but once a few originals came out for the listening, it was obvious this was something they'd pursue!! With Drew spending most his life singing and/or performing on stage, Luke constantly performing/gigging weekly at various venues around Brisbane and Sparks with more songs than his dvd collection, Fretless Delay just simply 'works'.
The idea to name the trio 'Fretless Delay', came about by pure luck and desperation. With the lead singer unavailable as he was on his honeymoon ;), and keeping in mind the three of them agreed to enter this years QSong Song Writing Competition, it would of looked terrible to submit their songs without a band name. So with time running out, Luke simply messaged sparks the word 'Delay' and added, " now you put another word to Delay and thats our name"!! Well this seemed all to easy now, but obviously this was to much of a burden on Sparks (lol) and to cut the story short, Sparks's sister opened the dictionary with her eyes closed, planted her finger down onto the paper and when she opened her eyes, well I think you get the picture!
You only have to talk to Drew, Luke or Sparks to realise music is what they do and it's music that makes them hop out of bed in the morning! There's no sugar coating here, there's no smoke & mirrors or stories of despair or heartache, Fretless Delay are just 3 musicians that love, enjoy and live for those 3/4 mins when they are playing that song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
