FRICTION BAILEY: The Silent Night
Friction Bailey's Christmas album, The Silent Night, is "somber and beautiful". Packaged in maroon linen with gold print, this is a limited edition CD (only 500 made). A gift for your friends who enjoy it when it rains...
FRICTION BAILEY: Tengo Yellow Pedal
This is beautiful music, easy-going acoustic-based music in the vein of Joni Mitchell, The Innocence Mission, and Over the Rhine.
"The male / female vocal interplay is engaging and when the harmony parts click as they do in the opening of I'm a Sucker (For Your Love), they verge on the transcendent."
Friction Bailey's founding members, Steve and Joy Guiles, live in Southern California (30 miles east of Los Angeles). Their music has been compared to 10,000 Maniacs, Innocence Mission, Over the Rhine, and Sixpence None The Richer. Their latest release began as a Christmas E.P. in the summer/winter of 2002 featuring beautiful acoustic versions of traditional and sacred Christmas songs and grew into 2004's full-length release, The Silent Night.
Steve recorded the majority of the instruments (bass, guitars, dulcimer, casio keyboard, piano, harmonicas, and percussion) in his own John Cash Studios.
Steve is also the lead singer for alt/rock/pop band, Pushstart Wagon (www.pushstartwagon.com) and guitarist for often inactive The Vegas Nerve(www.vegasnerve.com).
reviews of Friction Bailey's first full-length, Tengo Yellow Pedal:
"The male/female vocal interplay is engaging... they verge on the transcendent."
"A simple and unpretentious record, Tengo Yellow Pedal is the type of album that grows more engaging with repeated listens. A solid debut." - Todd Brown, True Tunes magazine (www.truetunes.com)
reviews of Friction Bailey's Christmas album, The Silent Night:
"Subtle and sublime, Friction Bailey's seasonal album should serve as a piece of education to the mass-produced and canned Christmas music we're fed every single year. With haunting and beautiful lyricism and the sparse but impactful thread of instrumentation, this is a disc to spin not only over the holidays but any time you need a reminder just how beautiful life can be." --Jason O'Brien
"At the end of the album is a song that could very well change the way you view the power of a Christmas album. The dual vocals of Steve and Joy sound fantastic on this song (auld lang syne). When it comes to Christmas albums, The Silent Night is definitely one of the best musical choices you can make." --Trace Cadenhead, Loconotion.net
"The vocals capture the innocence and sweetness of the holiday perfectly (especially when they harmonize together). Fans of slow acoustic music that read books and sip coffee will not be let down by this release." --Mark Fisher, 1340mag.com
Our song "Christ, the Child King"

i know it's a little late, but i just wanted to tell you that i successfully gave both of my sisters a copy of your christmas album as christmas gifts.
bah, you cali-folk don't know cold, I'd probably run nude while you bundled up in your "chilly weather"
but yeah, I saw a comment you left on my sister's page with some reference to S&G, and as a huge S&G fan, i had to check it out. good stuff, i like all the influences and the songs. I'm in a hard rock band now but i'm trying to write a bunch of folk music on my ukulele.
Happy New Year! I'm a podcaster and found your song on the Podsafe Music Network. I'll be using it on my next show (hopefully tomorrow!) I love your sound :-)
