DJ Shaun
Legendary Rock DJ

In 1988 I started work as a DJ at Nottingham's Rock City. I stayed there till 1995, After which I went to work at the Highwayman In Cheadle. I was bought in to do the second and last week of each month due to poor numbers by the DJs at that time. I brought in a classic and melodic rock policy and within 3 months had the numbers up and well over 2000 attendees each month!
We had various promotions and signing sessions with bands - and as well as DJing at the Highwayman between 1995 and 2001, I also did the famous AOR Night at Maximes in Wigan on the first Friday of every month - again breaking attendance records at the club!

Stevie E and I worked these clubs together - therefore many of you have already witnessed the great atmosphere we create!
In 2001 the Highwayman changed hands and the new owner wanted a change in music policy. I disagreed and left in February 2002 due to his demands, and within 3 months numbers had dropped below 200 and in June 2003 it closed its doors - not through high insurance due to 911 as claimed, but due to poor music policy and bad management!
On and off since 1986 I've worked as a front-of-house and sound tech for the likes of major bands such as Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Journey, FM. AC/DC. Little Angels and Thunder to name but a few! I returned from my travels and found that there is a huge demand for classic and melodic rock so we are now pushing forward with the real Highwayman Experience.
After a 4 year break I am pleased to say that I am back with Stevie E doing what we do best delivering a great package of classic/melodic rock you will only ever see Stevie and myself working behind the same decks at Maymies on the last Friday of every month!
So come on down and get a feel for the great rocking vibe that we create here at Frontiers Rock Night!

Sam
Promotions Manager

My name is Sam and I am a Libran so I'm firm but fair, diplomatic and focused... I have been a rock fan of 20 years, classic AOR/melodic being my first love, but any rock in general and you have my attention!
My passion started with Journey and Heart in the mid '80s, in the early '90s I was fortunate enough to meet many up and coming bands of that time... such as Thunder, Stage Dolls, Michael Monroe, Poison, Fish (ex-Marillion), Drive She Said, Vamp, Lemmy... the list goes on - but the love affair didn't stop there!
Last year I was on the Danger Danger tour with Deadline (as was) and the Styx tour with Double Cross... this gave me the opportunity to get another perspective on the rock world... merchandising, promoting etc... Just being involved gave me a buzz and my enthusiasm still preceeds me...
I also spent some time with the guys from Teer here in the UK and in Florida... listening to the band rehearse and then party, I could wish for nothing more than to live my passion.
As you can probably tell by now... I can't sing and I can't play an instrument... (wouldn't stop me trying though!). No, I'm more the organising type who likes to bring people together and see them enjoy themselves. I am a big believer of getting the music out there and get it heard by as many rock fans as I can encounter. I've been to several of the Gods festivals, and Firefest, and the Xmas bash... where I made new friends such as Lost Weekend, Pride (on there final performance)and Sacred Heart... not forgetting Dante Fox who played recently in Crewe, and Vaughn at JB's. I believe in supporting our local bands and to make the effort is keeping the music and rock venues alive... that is my mission.
I have organised minibus trips for the last year of The Highwayman in Stafford and bus trips to Leek's V Bar in the meantime - and am waiting for Maymies to re-open its doors and will be running bus-trips to there too.
I Hope I do the team justice and look forward to meeting my new big rock family.

Hi There,
I’m sure you’ll agree, that when you used to go out as a kid, to a Rock bar or Club, you’d be upset when the DJ always used to play the same old stuff week in week out, and you’d make a request and rarely get it played.
I always wished I could change all that, but knew …or at least thought I knew, I never could.
My DJing Career however, actually took off in the April of 1987, the month of the year Edwards No.8 became a Rock Club & Venue.
I was asked by my (then) mate, who was himself at the time, already a DJ, doing weddings, birthdays etc. A guy, you no doubt know as Dave Juste.
He and another friend John had been looking for a club that would play the kind of Rock we liked that at the time, even in those days, before Shaun or myself, had worked there, as a team or individually, was the HIGHWAYMAN.
They found that Edwards No.8 were very interested, and had agreed, to let them have two floors of Rock, so asked me if I knew any DJs, to which I answered “yes…But I’ve always quite fancied a shot at that myself”
“Hey! … With your record collection and you’ve sung in bands, so you know a crowd…Let’s go for it” they said. That’s how it started for me…The rest…is history!
I stayed at Edwards, for nine and a half years, all in all, working here and there in between .The Powerhouse- B’ham, & Costermonger-B’ham, & a relatively long spell at the INSTITUTE, within the room they called, the EASY LOUNGE…God! I loved those days Ha! Ha! Before expanding my DJing career to Exposure Rock Cafes in both B’ham & the Black Country.
In 1996, I was asked to leave Edwards & replace the Great (& legendary) Andy Copping, who was leaving XL’s in B’ham.
It was truly an honor to be asked & therefore jumped at the chance.
I spent an enjoyable three years at XL’s before I started to be told what I should, or shouldn’t play…from my REQUEST SHEET.
How on earth can someone tell you what NOT to play from something that is for the purpose of …REQUESTS. After all, I kinda planned, as a kid, to change all that.
In between all this I’d also gone back to singing in a Melodic Rock band called HIDEAWAY, who had the honor of being compared to Def Leppard, Danger Danger & White Lion, amongst others. And were featured or reviewed in HARD ROXX, RAGING HEART featuring an INTERVIEW with us (issue 2) & even KERRANG magazine.
So in 1999 I left XL’s and for a short time went back to Edwards No.8, before moving onto the Foundry – B’ham playing a Saturday night entitled “ROCK IT” in the Def Leppard font (appropriately)
In 2000, I started to go back to my old FAVE Place, as a punter…The Highwayman, only to find, an old friend Shaun, was now DJing there, and after a couple of visits Shaun said he’d love me to DJ with him.
Ok! I’d been DJing now for thirteen years in numerous places, but this was The Highwayman, so therefore, once again …jumped at the chance.
In the duration of the time Shaun and I worked together, I got asked by the manager of MAXIMES in Wigan, once a month, another place I loved to go to as a punter, if I wanted the job as DJ due to Marks Alger & Ashton, the then DJs, were leaving. Yet again…I was jumping, but asked Shaun, as he’d asked me to at the Highwayman, if he wanted to accompany me, in my new venture.
We worked together doing both for a while before Shaun decided to concentrate on the Highwayman and I would do Maximes.
As well as doing Maximes once a month, on the first Friday, for three years, on Saturday nights every week now, I was DJing back at the Costermonger – B’ham, Now simply the COSTERS. I was asked by the management to come back to the Highwayman after Shaun left, in 2001 and lasted until its sad demise in June 2003. By this time my Saturdays consisted of Costers one week and the next week at Derby’s The WHITEHOUSE, before opting to do Costers EVERY week.
I also DJ at ROCK CAFÉ 2000 in my hometown of STOURBRIDGE in the West Midlands, which is a great venue and owned by one of my best friends. And in September, start at the LITTLE CIVIC in Wolverhampton.
Shaun & I re – united in 2005 to do MAYMIES in Cannock and now with LIBERTYs – in B’ham imminent. The partnership goes from strength to strength.
I’d say, the high points for me over my nineteen years of DJing are Hosting 7 ZROCK festivals, 4 GODS festivals, resulting in my appearance on the HAREM SCAREM, HARDLINE, & JEFF SCOTT SOTO live CDs. Hosting FIREFEST 1 in Bradford, and introducing HAREM SCAREM, this time, on stage in front of 1000 people in Nottingham’s ROCK CITY at FIREFEST 2 and getting AGAIN on their internet only released live CD.
Also being featured in the DJ PROFILE section of issue 18 (with Tyla from Dogs D’Amour on the front cover) of HARD ROXX magazine.
And of cause being asked by Sue & Cathy of JOURNEY’s FAN CLUB to do the last two JOURNEY (my fave band) CONVENTIONS at ROCK CAFÉ 2000 in STOURBRIDGE, and most recently at the BIRDWELL CLUB in BARNSLEY.
My fave Bands are JOURNEY, whom I’ve now seen 6 times.Twice in the UK and 4 times in the states. SURVIVOR, WINGER, MR BIG, VAN HALEN, HAREM SCAREM, TREAT, to name a few. All of which are played at any nights we do together.
Always make the effort to check out a FRONTIERS ROCK NIGHT or any night with Shaun and Myself. Anyone will tell you…IT’S A BLAST

Hi there,
I'm Lou, probably the youngest member of the Frontiers team (just thought
I'd rub that in folks!) I'm married, with too many cats, and I'm a fiery
Aries for anyone thats interested.
I'm fun loving, easy to get along with and I LOVE to party! I enjoy meeting
and chatting to new people, so dont be too shy to come and say hi. Although,
be warned... I can talk the hind legs off a donkey.
I've been into rock music forever, it would take me far too long to list
the bands I'm into and have seen perform but I always say that you can never
have too much of a good thing. (that includes Jack Daniels)
I've been friends with Shaun since the good old Highwayman days and its great
to be on board creating the best rock nights around.
Looking forward to meeting you all....

DR.ANDY
Greetings everyone,
My part in Frontiers includes taking requests, gear movement (Roadie) and getting the sound right!
I have been involved since the Highwayman days (sadly missed!!) right up to now.
If I'm not taking requests I will be dancing like a loonie to Diving for Pearls, Harem Scarem or Steel Dragon.
Hope to see you on the Dance floor soon!
Later...
Andy

MERCHANDISE LIZZY

Hi there,
I have always loved rock music but wanted to do more than just watch other bands play so I started playing drums & joined a band myself. How could anyone NOT want to be up there on stage showing off to an audience?
I moved to London where I formed an all girl band, NO SHAME who had a lot of coverage in KERRANG touring with Tigertailz & Wolfsbane & had sponsorship deals with Premier drums who built me a pink double bass drum kit & Zildjian cymbals.
After No Shame I put together another all female band ORIGINAL SIN with the guitarists from Ice Age. We spent most of our time gigging around Europe with the likes of Pink Cream 69, Vengeance & open air festivals with Slayer before I moved to the other end of the music business demonstrating Meinl cymbals at trade shows in Germany & America. I then worked in Artist Relations with Gibson guitars, who I still believe produce the world’s best sounding guitars. Here I dealt with & met bands such as Def Leppard, U2, Lenny Kravitz & Guns ’n’ Roses who took me to Paris with them after I had Slash’s favourite guitar repaired during their world tour.
Whenever I was back home I could be found down the HIGHWAYMAN & like most of you was gutted when it closed.
You will find me on the dance floor at the FRONTIERS rock nights at our various clubs as well as running the merchandise, kitting the team out in our distinctive maroon Fleeces, T-shirts & Baseball caps which are raising our profile when spreading the FRONTIERS word at gigs & club nights. As well as giveaways look out for future merchandise on sale. If you see us out & about, come & say hi! You can usually find me at most gigs... so come on over, take a flyer or two and hang around for a chat(strictly rock of course!!!)...spread the word we are out there FOR YOU!
