G Flex aka G 'Funky' aka The General started experimenting with basic music making programs on the playstation and PC in the late ninties. His eary styles were very experimental due to his listening to everything from 2 Unlimited to Tupac to Dreamscape to Artful Dodger to Peter Tosh!!!
In 2000 he purchased an Atari ST (loaded with Cubase v.2), a sampler, two sound modules a Sequencer and a Mixing Desk and started taking music prodution seriously. He produced several hours worth of music and gave away cassettes of his tracks.
He was also interested in DJ'ing after seeing some of his peers using decks and inheriting several Reggae records from his Mother. Being distracted by the decks the production took a back seat for a while.
In 2001 he began to use a program called Fruity Loops (Later FL Studio) on the PC and the production really stepped up a gear. He sent out several demos to various labels.
In December 2001 he landed a weekly residency at Brighton night club 'Volks Tavern' Because of this the production once again took a back seat.
During 2002 the Sound System Good Karma was born with fellow reggae DJ's MR Finn and Irie Fresh (Kings Hi Fi). A hectic few years of running squat parties, club nights and outdoor raves ensued.
Early 2003 he heard a new sound emerging onto the streets of Brighton via Mix CD's and a lot of hype but no club scence (yet...). He sought out where to buy Dubstep records and began collecting labels like Ghost Recordings, Big Apple, Planet Mu, Tempa, Hot Flush, Dump Valve etc.
During 2005 Good Karma Sound split due to musical differences but still remain friends. At this point G Flex retreated to the bedroom studio producing his own unique style of Underground Dance Music Heavily influenced by his Reggae roots.
Summer 2005 G Flex met DJ Unlikey. Discovering that he was planning to start a night called 'Dub Pressure' G Flex became a resident Dj at what has now become Brightons Premiere Dubstep organisation playing at every one for more than two years. Later leaving to concentrate on his own promotions, G Flex can still be found as a guest DJ at the occasional 'Dub Pressure' night.
June 2006 he started his own string of nights under the Banner of 'Bear Bashment promotions':-
Bangers and Mash Up (music policy: anything goes)
Rubber Dubs (music policy: Reggae & Dubstep)
Ring the Alarm (music policy: Ragga, Grime & Bassline)
Sound Clash (music policy: Dubstep & Grime vs 4x4 & Funky)
November 2008 G Flex and Micky Freeze were given the oppertunity to host and run their own show on underground cult radio station www.streamizm.com The show runs every friday 20:00 till 23:00 GMT
Always keen to showcase his diverse tastes G Flex can be found spinning in his home town Brighton as well as guest appearences elsewhere dropping: UK Funky / Bassline / Grime / Old Skool Dubstep / Classic Dancehall / Jackin Electro / Fidgit House
