ABOUT HELM Hailing from the Gold Coast of Australia, HELM have proven to be stronger than ever, hitting hard in 2008 with their debut, Vol 1 'Keelhaul.' The rock album has been recognised as the musical antidote needed in today's angst-ridden climate, with its mix of optimism and realism. The album has received rave reviews from world-wide street press, popular magazines and reviewers in general. ZOO Magazine named the album, 'possibly the most exciting Rock release of the year.' Beat Magazine touted HELM as 'one of the best Australian Rock bands to emerge in the last decade.' For 4 laid-back Gold Coast Tradies, just keen on getting together for a beer and a jam, nothing has been more rewarding for them than the admiration from their fans. Countless emails and comments proclaim only the utmost admiration and respect for their brooding, yet relentless, live shows. The past year has seen HELM diligently working on the road and also in the studio, resulting in a searing sophomore album proving to be an even bigger smash than their debut. Vol 2… 'The Winter March' was released December 18th 2009 on the Gold Coast. This pre-release was followed by an extensive three month launch tour throughout Australia. Upon the material being previewed, an industry insider stated, "The Winter March is an epic masterpiece. Australia will be blown away by this." Since expanding from a 4 to a 5 piece band over the last 8 months (now wielding 3 guitars and extra vocals), their live shows are a truly head crushing, extra sensory experience. August 2010 will see them release a cover of the iconic Australian song 'Great Southern Land' originally written by Iva Davies and Icehouse. August through to Jan 2011 will see them tour the whole country and New Zealand, promoting this release and awakening Australia with the boot in the ass that is HELM. It will also mark a period of time that has seen a humble, independent band release 2, high quality full-length albums, a cracking EP, video for debut single 'RELEASE THE EAGLES' and performed a massive string of successful shows around Australia all in under 18 months. The bones of Vol 3… are currently being assembled for release next summer - a collection of songs, apparently already eclipsing all previously released material. As far as Rock music goes, HELM are a fresh, very exciting and genuine representation of our modern times through sound. Along with the likes of COG, Karnivool and Dead Letter Circus right through to the Aussie greats, such as Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, INXS etc. HELM raise the undeniable fact that you cannot compare this band to anything you've heard before. Original, strong, Australian and here to stay. -
